Chapter 36: Light's Warmth

POV: Kadupul

Kadupul heard Swamp throwing Volatus. She couldn't tell what direction the Swamp Monster the Griffin but the Earth shook about a second later.

She shivered as a result. 

*I never quite realized how strong Physical Strengths can be. Did I wonder what traits the other two strengths bare?* Kadupul thought as she felt another tremor and believed it had to be the battle between Swamp and Volatus begun. *I hope Swamp is okay.* The presence of Swamp faded as if he teleported. 

Darwin's fox started to run towards Rex and realized that Currere had vanished as well. Kadupul put all her attention on the Bengal tiger and knew something wasn't right.

Rex wasn't breathing, but something warm liquid reached her paws. It was blood. It had to be.

"Rex?" The gray fox whined, calling for her friend. "Rex, please answered me. You promise me that you'll take me home. You also promise me that you'll introduce me to your family and...." The fox couldn't take it anymore and whine. However, she didn't dare leap onto his back like she did in the past to get his attention.

Kadupul felt a paw. No, a hand patting her back. It wasn't petting as it was meant to mean something else. The scent of this creature was something unique that no one else had. Well, she didn't know anyone else with a scent this unique.

"Cursor?" Kadupul whined and leaned into her.

The order of salt was heavy on the leopard girl. Cursor had to be crying, but why wouldn't she? The greatest creature that they knew was lying dead on the ground.

"Rex shouldn't have been killed. He sacrifices so much." Kadupul whined and felt Cursor's hand slide up and down on the fox's back.

"It is, but that is life. Rex knew the risks and decided anyway." Cursor began. "That is just who he is...."

"Wait!!! You are an Angel. Can you heal him?" Kadupul cut off the Leopard girl

.Kadupul felt the hand left her fur and heard a light thud as if Cursor fell on her bum."I am only part Angel. I don't have every power, and besides...." Cursor's tone was stressed as she was speaking quickly. "After the heart stops, nothing can be done." She finished.

Suddenly, there was silence, and Kadupul felt a sixth sense. "Cursor, don't." The Darwin's fox knew what the leopard-girl was planning to do. "Rex wouldn't want that."

Cursor hissed as a replied. "But if I break the necklace maybe there is a chance...." 

"A chance of what? Your life for his? Your wings for his? Rex wouldn't want someone to die just to save him!!!" Kadupul barked, trying to talk Cursor out of it.

Both females wanted Rex to be laughing and telling them that he was fine. However, they know he would feel guilty if it meant one of them was to die.

"Kadupul, I know the risk. Rex did so much for me. I love him and refused to let my cousin die!!!" The cursor growled in a feline-like tone."I thought you said his heart already stopped?" Kadupul caught the leopard-girl wording. Cursor didn't say a word as if she was thinking. The fox still had a feeling that the girl had her hand on the necklace that held Leona's power. "I love Rex too, and I would give everything to get him back, but we can't do it..."

Kadupul knew that Rex was in his Griffin form as the feathers were scattered around him. She also knew that his neck was broken. The Darwin's fox shivered remembering Volatus snapping his neck.

Cursor cut her off with a slight hiss. "There is a way to heal him, without causing anyone to kill themselves." She said in a strangely calm voice.

"What do you mean?" Kadupul asked being very curious. She was ready to give up her new-found form to see Rex smiling again.
