Chapter 29: The Rescue

POV: Kadupul

The milky eye fox ran down a very narrow tunnel as a clumsy Griffinling was close behind her. The Darwin's Fox's claws felt cold stone beneath her. Kadupul was surprised that Currere could shrink herself as small as the fox.

She never knew Griffins could do this, but what Swamp explained makes sense. Great Beasts can change in size with a catch. Only the Physical and Magical Strengths can do this. It allowed them to blend in on the Mainland while Spiritual Strengths could make themselves invisible.

*Note: Invisible to those who are not from the Island. So, this will not work on Panthera Regina. However, they can still mask their scents.*

Currere shrinking in size made it possible for the two not to go in alone as Swamp discovered a tunnel that should lead to the Royals. Kadupul was able to confirm his suspicions as they travel down the tunnels for about three minutes.

"Kaddie..." Currere cried, causing the brown fox to stop.

The Griffinling wasn't able to pronounce her name correctly, thus starting a nickname. Kadupul thought this was cute.

"I smell them. It's the cubs." Currere spoke.

Kadupul's eyes became wide as she knew what the bear Griffinling meant. *Rex's younger siblings.*

This was Rex's plan all along. He suggests that Kadupul and Currere find the royals as no one will suspect the two. Any guard would think that Currere is an offspring of some guard, and the fox wasn't well known.

Overall, the two small animals in the groups can go without notice. It was a great plan.

Kadupul started forward again as Currere followed behind.

Mendax, Swamp, and Rex will draw out the main guards easily as the Swamp Monster believed that their size would sound some kind of alarm. However, there is one part of the plan that Mendax was not aware of. This was Swamp's idea that Kadupul agreed with. Not even Currere even knows this part.

Swamp would use plants to form the look likes of Currere and Kadupul. He explained that it won't be a hundred percent but should fool most Creatures.

Swamp had this idea that since Mendax didn't have a scent that he must a Spiritual Strength, specifically an Angel.

Rex didn't know that Mendax didn't know this part. Both fox and Great Beast agreed that Rex was too close to Mendax at this moment to be trusted.

That and the Prince appeared to be a horrible liar.

Swamp and Kadupul had talked about Mendax. They agreed that something wasn't adding up more than him being a possible Angel.

*Why would he lie about being an animal than a sphinx?* Kadupul wondered as the pair continued down the tunnel. *I just don't get it.*

Swamp confirm that no ranks shouldn't be this knowledge even if they are gift bearers as they will be given simple jobs. He also said it's unlikely that he was a mixed breed as he didn't have a scent.

Swamp stated that Mendax had no scent on him. No Tiger. No Sphinx. This was considered odd as no Great Beast can hide their scents. This confirms the Angel part.

*Maybe that is why I never felt comfortable being around Mendax.* Kadupul thought as they squeezed through the tunnel as it got smaller.

"I hear whimpers," Currere said as the fox felt like they were reaching the end of the tunnel. After a few minutes went by, Kadupul could hear it too.

It sounded cat-like, and she was glad that Rex gave her Lessons about felines calls because she was able to understand the meanings. They were cries and growls.
