There is a legend of how the Sirens got their ability to Shift. Well, two versions of this legend exist.

The first one is uncommon as it goes into the story of Sirens being Fallen Angels, which Sirens hate the idea of.

The first telling was the result of an Angel trying to give Winter to Earth, but it backfired. The Higher Angels hated that an Angel would try to create a season of rest and stripped her of her wings and gave her a tail. And as an added curse she would have to eat the flesh of land-bound creatures to survive.

However, Sirens don't like going about this story as they feel it is insulting. So, another legend was born, but it was more of an unsaid myth.

When the island was still new and young, there swam no Sirens as they had yet to venture to the island.

*Note: The story was such a long ago, that no one agrees on what any of the characters look like, and a few of the names got lost as well. Sirens don't have written stories. It's all oral.*

There was a young merman that went by the name Elios. Pronounce like Helios with the 'h'. His parents like the stories of gods and goddesses that the "Greek" humans created. Elios doesn't understand why humans try to separate themselves. To him, they all look the same.

However, he guesses that the pods have different traditions. Elios could understand why some humans would do that.

*It still doesn't make sense with the senseless wars.* Elios thought as he swam the Aegean Sea.

A Kelpie was near the shoreline trying to catch prey. Kelpies and Sirens have the same prey, fresh meat. However, there is one difference between the cousins. The Kelpies eat souls, while Sirens eat flesh.

They need these food sources to keep their powers. Unlike other Great Beasts, that could command the Elements. These two species have to eat in order to keep their connections with their Elements.

So, the two tribes often will share their meals whenever they could.

"Hey, Demeter. How is it going?" Elios called out to the Kelpie after he caught a young Greek hunter.

The Kelpie turned around and smiled with an unnerving toothy grin. Elios had to remember that Kelpies can very dangerous. Despite the peace treating of the two tribes. There were minor fights between the two whenever someone eats one another. However, that didn't stop Kelpie from sharing his meal with Elios.

"Have you heard of an island filled with Great Beast and fresh meat everywhere?" The Kelpie told the siren.

"That is a myth." Elios shot back as he digs into the human.

The Everlasting War was a thing of the past. No one really ever remembers it unless they were fifty or older. Once the war was over, the land started to heal again. Trees became to bear fruit, the water was drinkable, and no one needed to depend on the Griffins for survival.

"No, dude it's real." The Kelpie posttested as she sulped up the soul.

"Have you ever been there?" Elios questioned.

"Haha, no. Kelpies can't get near the island. We only can get so far as Antarctica before Sea Horses and Dragons chase us." Demeter hissed. "I don't understand why we are not allowed to go to the island. It is not like we are going to break their laws or anything."

"Laws?" Elios was getting more inquired by the second.

"Yeah, you know the Princess of the Phoenix?" Elios nodded as she continued. "She is Queen of the Island and married to King Sun. They create these laws to protect the island. I think it's a good idea. Queen Breeze even announces that every hundred years. So a new ruler will rise to the throne. I just don't understand why Kelpies are not allowed!"

Elios decided to venture to the island to see for himself. He was shocked to find it was true. The island did exist, then excitement turned into fear as a Sea Horse approached him. However, what he wasn't expecting was that, unlike the Kelpies.

The Siren was welcomed in open flippers. It was well known, that the two tribes were cousins. However, it appears that family ties don't isolate them.

Elios felt happy and chose to leave the island to bring his pod over. He also found a female pod that was willing to join them as well. Upon returning, a great danger was approaching. A giant ship of men from whatever country was coming too close to the island. Elios recognized the ship was from Greek. It was his homeland after all, and he knew that they were seeking to conquer and destroy.

Elios feared the worst and decided to act with the help of his and the female pods. They used the Elements to create a great wave that was tall enough that could destroy the ship but at the last minute. Elios used all his strength to show an act of mercy and protected the lives of both, thus guiding the ship away from the island.

When Elios and the pods came onto the island's shore. The Stars of Fate cast light upon them. At first, they didn't know what was going on, but their tails turned into legs. Creatures gathered and watched as the Sirens were surrounded by the light and water. The Elements of Angels. Elios watched the Stars of Fate and was the first to kneel down and accept the blessings.

This was how Sirens got the ability to Shift like an Angel.

As per tradition, Siren's sixth birthday is the day they can choose any sea animal to Shift. However, they must choose carefully as they only Shift into one creature for there rest of their lives.

But the Legends lived on of how Sirens saved the Island and became the first Great Beast, or Creature for that matter to get a blessing from the Stars of Fate.
