POV: Calamitous/Mendax
The Angels and mix-breed Phoenix sat in cave miles from the territory of Panthera Regina's Island. The weather here was horrible as a dense fog filled the sky, and water droplets caked every surface. The cave had a mild-dew odor, but it was bearable.
Calamitous could not be believed that he was able to escape the island's field as when it was first created nothing was allowed out. The red-winged Angel prayed that his leaving did not expose the island.
It would create chaos if Mainlanders would discover the island. It was surprising that the creatures, no animals even survived for this long.
The humans had created a world where it was hard to breathe. The night sky was outshined by lights from the ground. The animals grew to fear humans as both fought for territory and food.
"I can't believe they created guns. It was no wonder that the world felt broken after I woke. I thought it was the Island, but I was wrong." Calamitous spoke as Azure maintained a fire.
It was very cold here, but Calamitous guessed it was too hard to believe. They were very close to Antarctica.
"Why is the Island in the Southern part of the world?" Azure asked the Angel in an emotionless tone.
The Peregrine Falcon Phoenix had been very quiet since they came here. However, he did not push her. It was going to take some time to get used to everything, and they needed a plan.
"I have no idea. Feather and Snow picked the spot before I could find her." The red-winged Angel replied. Azure reminded him of Breeze in many ways, but the two were different.
Azure followed commands to the letter and showed her loyalty. However, this Phoenix did not challenge him or questioned him. Compared to Breeze, Azure was weak.
The feathers of Azure became very faint after they fled the island. At first, Calamitous thought she was hurt but soon discovered that the Island kept the Elements alive.
It appeared that a few centuries after the Island was created that the world lost its connections to the Elements. This must be the imbalance that Calamitous had felt.
The Angel looked at Azure.
The pair could not get any further from the Island's outer territory, where the main fog and storms are located. The reason for this because Azure was a Great Beast born and raised on the Island. The Elements were very weak here, and the Phoenix looked sick.
It was very clear that they need to return or at least reach the sea surrounding the island soon.
"Calatmious, why did you save me?" Azure asked in a sad tone as she focus on the fire.
The Angel Shift from his Angelic form to a human with black hair and white skin. Calamitous had summoned blue clothes; a shirt, and pants. He saw one of the humans on a cruise ship wearing it.
"Because I couldn't allow you to die." Calamitous half lied. "You were the only one that showed me true loyalty, and you did not deserve death."
"What is the real reason? You acted differently ever since that light appeared and healed that brown cat with wings." Azure said, showing no emotions.
It must take a lot of energy to speak in her condition, but they could not return yet. They would be on high alert. Any Great Beasts would either kill or capture them on sight.
*I would rathered be imprisoned by the Island than be a slave to the other Angels.* Calamitous thought as he knew that death would be too easy. The Higher Angels would want him to suffer and take his wings. Calamitous was debating to tell her for about a month now but did not know how to do it. *Better sooner than later.*
"My sister." The Angel replied, causing the Phoenix to hiccup into her birth form. Calamitous smiled at the reaction. "Yep, I am talking about Snow."
"I had a suspicion that you were somehow related from the way you speak about the past and her," Azure answered, surprising him.
"My, My. I did choose the right bird as you do have a brain and know how to use it." Calamitous said, impressed.
"Haha, just continued. It is taking more energy to keep this fire going than it was dealing with the Prince and his pack." Azure chirped as she hopped and flapped over to him.
"That's because you are bound to the island, young Phoenix. I never would have guessed that Sun would cast such a dangerous spell. I am surprised that the Island could send messengers out of the island to the mainland." Calamitous spoke trying to keep her warm by creating a blanket from thin air. "I wish I could do more, but I too became bounded by the Island's effect."Calamitous looked outside the cave and saw nothing but fog. It would be nice to see some colors other than white, gray, and dark green-blue waves.
The red-winged Angel sighed. "Snow is alive, youngling. However, she is split into two." "What do you mean by "split"?" Azure asked as she drifted in and out of a deep sleep.
"Snow's spirit is elsewhere, while her power is trapped here. There is something wrong though. I can feel the power slowly being drained from the island." Calamitous explained. "What's worst about this pheromonal is that this only happened, maybe about twenty years ago. It is new, and it was the main reason why I got more power back."
"That is very close to when the Alba men invaded." Azure pointed out.
"Yep, only three years before they came onto the island. Snow is starting to wake up, and I fear that this would cause more harm than good." Calamitous felt a pit in his stomach.
The Angel missed his sister greatly, but this did not feel right. Something was very wrong as if something is trying to drain the abilities of this world. It is only a matter of time before all magic is lost and the Elements go extinct.
"I thought you were trying to find her?" Azure asked.
"I do, but Snow would not want her Island destroyed in the process. I couldn't live with myself if I allowed the last thing she created to be destroyed or abused." Calamitous finished as the rhythm of sleep took hold of Azure. "I will find a way to ensure that you live and the island. I just need a plan." The Angel groaned, grabbing his head with human hands. "Feather would have found a way to protect the Creatures." He laughed, thinking of his friends, besides Sun. "Snow would make her voice known and consider every creature and how they would be affected. Breeze would do her best to form a plan, taking suggestions from the others."
Calamitous held his head in his hands. *Sun and I are a lot alike. We would be the ones to suggest the easy route that would cause the most harm. I give everything to be with them again. They would have no problem formulating a plan. Why did I have to be the one to outlive them all?*
Calamitous allowed sleep to finally take him as he stayed awake for about a month. The Angel did not want to see the dreams of what was to come. He did not want illusions of his sister or his friends.
All Calamitous wanted to do was rest, at least for now.
