Prologue

All around the yard there were whispers about a new kid. Oh joy, a possible new friend of mine, I thought.

Turning swiftly around, I caught the sight of a boy around my age.

"Hi, I'm Audrey Ryder! What's your name?" I asked the kid, who was now awkwardly avoiding my eye contact.

"I'm Wesley, my friends usually call me Wes. I'm new around here, if you haven't already heard." he muttered.

It didn't take long for me to realize how shy he was; in fact I found it pretty cute.

Behind me, I could hear faint footsteps getting louder until I heard Ben's familiar voice.

"Hey Audrey! Who's your new friend?" he asked nodding towards Wes.

"This is that new kid, Wesley's his name." I explained.

"I have a feeling we'll all be good friends, don't you, Audrey?" Ben asked.

I did. I used to, until I found out who that shy kid really was. A jerk.
