Chapter 27

Lio also dreamt.

Instead of being in a dark pitch, silent void he was in a white place, with only the sound of birds chipping.

It was calm.

In the middle of that place there was your tree, petals falling from it.

But there was also him.

There was his younger self waiting under the tree.

Lio gasped. He didn't expect meeting himself in his dream.

Without hesitation, he approached him.

Thirteen years old Lio was looking peaceful, his eyes closed, completely immersed in the atmosphere.

"Hey" older Lio said, with a gentle smile and a soft tenderness in his eyes.

His younger self didn't reply though.

Instead of smiling back, he slapped Lio.

"Hey! What was that for-"

He hugged him.

Lio was surprised. First he slaps him and then he hugs him.

"Care to tell me what's happening?" Lio asked.

His younger self moved away from the hug, and started scolding him.

"It's incredible how you've changed. First, from being Lio Fotia, the scary Mad Burnish's leader who burns everything to the ground, to a simple boy who loves. Didn't expect this from you."

"HEY! You fell in love with her when she was younger too! Who do you think you are to say this to me?!" Lio said

"Did I say this was a negative thing?"

Lio looked at him in shock. His teenager version was odd.

"That's what we wanted from the start, right? To be loved. Ever since we became Burnish, we wanted a normal life again"

He wasn't wrong.

"You even had the idea of building a city just for Burnish people, didn't you? And let's be honest, afterwards you would have searched her, even if you wanted to forget her"

"How much does this kid know?!" Lio thought.

Younger Lio smiled. His older self really forgot that they were the same person.

"Hey" he said "protect her at all costs. We couldn't protect her then, protect her now"

Then? What happened then?

However, Lio smiled. He was already protecting her. He surely didn't need his younger self to warn him.

He was ready to wake up, but he needed to assure something.

"Hey, why did you slap me and then hug me?"

"Hah, about that. You completely ignored her for some days because you were fighting your past, you were fighting me, but there was no need to be scared. That's why I hugged you afterwards"

So that's why he did that.

Lio smiled, saying goodbye to his younger self for one last time.

"C'mon, go and wake up" 13 years old Lio said

Lio woke up from his dream.

His hand was sweaty from holding yours so tightly and for so many hours.

When he woke up however, he found you hugging his head. You were sleeping.

This meant that you previously woke up.

He immediately stood up and shook you. He wanted to see you awake.

"Y/N!" he pleaded "Y/N, wake up!"

You opened your eyes in the blink of an eye.

Lio sighed. You were fine then.

He turned your face to see you, still sleepy.

"Hello" he said with a tender smile.

But you didn't reply with a smile.

You started crying.

"Hey, hey! C'mon, you are okay, you'll be fine, no need to cry" he said, holding your shoulders.

"I'm just happy to see you" you said in the middle of your cries.

It moved Lio's heart.

That's where he remembered that he confessed you his feelings without getting an answer.

His face burnt. He turned his face away so that you couldn't see him.

Suddenly, Galo and Aina entered the room.

"Y/N!" they both exclaimed.

They noticed Lio holding your shoulders with his face looking down, where you couldn't see him.

They both smirked.

"Did we interrupt something?" they said joking.

Lio immediately let you go, ran towards Galo, grabbed his shirt and brought him away from the room.

You were left in the room with Aina. She was laughing, tears falling from her eyes.

"I can't believe it!" she said laughing.

You were confused. Why did Lio suddenly change his behavior?

Aina saw through your confusion, and sat down on your bed, offering you an answer.

"First, did you know that you've been sleeping for three days? Lio was worried sick" she said "The doctors even told him that you were just sleeping and that your conditions were stable, but he still didn't listen to them"

Three days?!

"Also, he told us everything" Aina said, with a smile on her lips.

Your cheeks became red in an instant.

"And he also told us about your incident at work. And about this, your manager was actually the one-"

"That caused the accident? Yeah, I already know that" you interrupted her.

Surprised about you knowing that, she told you that your colleague, the one that also was a Burnish, saw everything and saw the manager throwing fire at everything with the intent of killing you.

But when she finished illustrating this, she had a weird look on her face. Almost as if she wanted to say something but didn't know if she could.

"Aina, you have something else to say, don't you?"

"Weeeeelll...after hearing this, Lio tried to break in the police station to murder your ex-manager"

He WHAT?

"But don't worry! We've stopped him before and now he's calmed down! And he didn't leave your side for a moment"

It indeed moved your heart. You wanted to hug him for eternity.

But why did he run away now?

"Hey Aina, do you have an idea about why he suddenly left bringing Galo away with him?"

She started laughing.

"The poor guy confessed you his feelings and still didn't receive an answer. He's really embarassed"

Oh, right, you still had to confess.

But the hospital wasn't certainly the best place for it.
