A couple of days later

Anna POV

I thought about what my parents had said to me two nights ago. I thought I could handle it. And from what my parents told me, they're a family and they would protect me. Apparently, some of my best friends are Serpents but they didn't tell me because my parents and Cheryl and Toni had told them not to tell me and not to wear their jackets in front of me.

But I knew that it was my destiny to become the next Serpent queen because of my parents. So I knew I had to accept being a Serpent. I wanted to be a Serpent.

"Mom. Dad." I called out when I got home from school that day.

I didn't expect either of them to be home from school so early but my dad was home with James. James had a black eye.

"Dad. James. What happened?" I asked.

"A kid at Riverdale Elementary, the son of one of the people who picked on your mother when she first took me into the Serpents. Yes, we were adults but he still thought that the Southsiders were nothing but trash. His son punched your brother because he knew your mother and I were Serpents and he thought that James would be a Serpent like us." My dad explained.

"Oh my god! James are you okay?" I asked frantically.

"I'm okay. Aside from this black eye." He said solemnly.

"I'm so sorry this happened to you bud. I swear when I find out who hurt you I'll..." I was cut off by my dad.

"No Anna. That's just what the Northsiders want. They want people from the Southside to retaliate against them so that they can say that the Southsiders attacked first and that they were just defending themselves. Trust me. One of my old friends from when I grew up on the Northside thought that the Serpents were trash and dangerous." My dad explained.

"Then what am I supposed to do? Not protect my little brother?" I asked, fuming.

"You can protect him. But violence isn't the answer." My dad said.

"You're right dad." I sighed.

"That's my girl." My dad said to me.

"Now. Was there something you wanted to tell me, Anna?" My dad asked.

"Yeah, but I want to wait until mom gets home so I can tell both of you at once." I told him.

"OK. I was just gonna start some dinner. Why don't you get started on your homework?" He asked me.

"Yeah. I should get started on that." I said and went to my room.

An hour and a half later I had my homework done. Dad was still in the kitchen cooking. He must be making a complicated dish. Then I went to the living room and turned on the news. I saw something that shocked me.

Southside High was closing down.

"Dad!" I yelled.

"What is it, Anna?" He asked me.

"Southside High is being shut down. I was supposed to go there next year." I explained.

"Well look at that. They finally did close that old place down." He said.

"Why did it close?" I asked.

"Well, your mother told me that a rival gang called the Ghoulies was selling drugs there. She also told me that it was dangerous because of how many fights would go on down there and how they had to go through metal detectors just to get into the school." Dad explained to me.

"Mom went there?" I asked.

"Yeah, your mother, unlike me grew up on the Southside so she went to Southside High while I went to Riverdale High." He explained.
