Doubt and guilt drowned Jade's mind. Her thoughts a hurricane of emotion and regret. "How could I do this to Cat? Why would I do this to Cat? It's not her fault it's mine." Her father had been right all along. Caring was a disadvantage, not just to her but for everyone. Caring had hurt Jade, caring had hurt Beck, caring had hurt Cat.
"I'm a poison." Jade thought to herself. She seemingly hurt everyone around her, even when trying so hard not too. Because that's who she is. What she is. A deadly poison that could corrupt and destroy even the sweetest soul.

All this had led Jade to the one place she never thought she'd end up in a crisis. She knocked on her father's door and after a few moments, he opened it.
"Jade." He said, no surprise evident in his voice.

"Hey dad." Jade croaked, her voice worn from yelling and crying. "Can I come in?"

"You're my daughter Jade." The man stated as he stepped out the way to allow his daughter to enter.

"Sorry for showing up unannounced." Jade said, she knew her father was never a fan of unexpected visitors, however, instead of commenting on this, her father instead made his way to the kitchen and grabbed some scotch and two glasses.

"Care for a drink?" He asked.

"I'm not 21?" Jade responded, surprised at the offer. While being underaged had never stopped Jade before it's more of a surprise coming from her father.

"That wasn't the question." Her father said back as he began pouring the drinks. He handed one to Jade, who accepted as he went to the living room and sit on his chair by the fireplace. "Come sit."

Jade obliged and took a seat opposite her father. The two sat in silence for a moment and questions stormed Jade's mind but the most prevalent was the one she chose to vocalise. "What the fuck is this?!"

"Well if you're curious about the scotch I could get the bottle." Her dad responded.

"Not the drink!" Jade said impatiently. "This!" She gestured at the room and the two of them. "Why aren't you gloating? Why aren't you all like 'I told you so' and shit like that?"

Mr West sighed as he sipped his drink before speaking.
"Do you know why I was in support of yours and Beck's relationship?"

Jade took a moment to respond.
"Because he was a big tough guy who would counter my more... intense traits."

"I saw myself in young Beck." Jade's father said.
"Your relationship reminded me of your mother and I, you and Cat seemed unrecognisable in comparison." The man took a sip from his scotch.

"So what changed?" Jade asked, feeling a bit impatient.

"I know you resent me for leaving your mother." Her father said.
"But we weren't happy together and as it seems neither were you and Beck." Jade sat silent, she knew he was right but admitting it would mean her father had a point and that didn't sit well with her.
"Beck's more relaxed nature had the opposite affect than I thought it would, instead of balancing out your anger, his apathy towards other girls who flirted with him only infuriated you more."

"Would you just get to the point!" Jade asked angrily.

"Seeing you with Cat and hearing about how happy you were made me realise that if you were to be happy you needed someone endearing, someone who didn't ignore your insecurities but someone who would help you with them."

Jade sat, reflecting on her time with Cat. How Cat had been by her side through thick and thin, no matter how angry Jade had gotten, how much she'd yelled Cat had stood by in spite of it . The memories flooded sadness through Jade, knowing how she'd made Cat cry and think Jade didn't love her.
"Well I ruined that too didn't I?" Jade responded, desperately fighting back the urge to cry.
