Jade was still reeling from the breakup. The rest of the school day had felt like a blur, barley any of it actually registering in her mind.
Jade didn't know what to do with herself.
Beck had been right, the pair weren't working anymore but they had still been together for so long that suddenly just being without him was hard for the girl to process. Maybe that's why she found herself here at 8:00 at night.

Jade didn't know how she got here, she didn't remember doing it, but something about her subconscious had decided that in her daze this was where she needed to be.

Jade looked up at Cat's front door. Cat was Jade's oldest friend and Jade knew she could trust her, it's why she never got jealous when Cat was with Beck, only when Cat kissed him that one time. Jade flinched the memory, she had been needlessly harsh to Cat that day.
Wait. Was she feeling sorry about a time she was mean to someone? Jade never felt bad about these things. So why this time?

Jade took a deep breath and forced the feeling down, proceeding to knock on the door. After a moment an adult woman that Jade recognised as Cat's mother.

"Jade!" The woman said with surprise. "What brings you here?"

"Hi Mrs Valentine." Jade responded. "Is Cat here?" She asked.

"Yes she's just upstairs, let me get her." Mrs Valentine said. She was a nice woman herself but her and her husband had a shaky relationship as told to Jade by Cat. They fought a lot with each other, mostly about Cat's unstable brother. Jade was able to sympathise with this a bit, her parents were divorced and hated each other so Jade had been around a lot of fighting when she was younger. This commonality had helped Cat and Jade form a close bond that had lasted a very long time. There had been a period of time where Cat was the only good person Jade had in her life. And how had Jade repaid this kindness? With yelling sand cruelty.

"There I go again." Jade thought to herself. Why was she suddenly feeling so bad about how she had treated Cat? Jade was mean to everyone and Cat hadn't been an exception. She was a little nicer to Cat than someone like Tori or some rando at school who'd annoy her buts that just because Jade actually liked having Cat around.

"Cat!" Mrs Valentine called up the stairs.

"Yeah?" A voice, that Jade knew immediately was Cat, responded. Jade swore that as time went on Cat's voice changed, to her it seemed more high pitch and slower than it used to be. Either way hearing the redhead's voice immediately made Jade feel better and she felt a smile start to creep at her lips.

She shook her head and returned to a normal facial expression. Why was she smiling? She has nothing to be smiling about.

"Jade is here!" Cat's mother called up.
Despite the fact she sometimes fought with him, Cat's mother did still love her husband and vice versa. The couple often did have yelling matches with their son however according to Cat and Jade could imagine raising him had been difficult considering how obviously sick in the head he was.

"Coming!" Cat responded and Jade could hear her running down the stars at what Jade considered an unsafe speed. The girl got to the door but before Jade or Cat's mom could say anything Cat grabbed Jade by the wrist and ran back upstairs. Jade tired to not fall over as the two ran up the stairs and into Cat's room.

Cat shut the door behind them and started breathing heavily out of tiredness.
"What was that?" Jade asked.

"What are you doing here?" Cat asked, not answering Jade's question. Jade tended to just accept some of Cat eccentricities. She was an energetic girl and so sometime this excess energy would release itself in weird abs wonderful ways.

"I..." jade stuttered, struggling to find a reason she could give that wouldn't make her seem vulnerable and weak. "I don't really know, I just needed a friendly face."
