Jared held my hand as his other hand was on the steering wheel. It felt a bit strange holding someone's hand again. Physical touch in fact is pretty brand new. The first hug I received in months was when Lucy moved in. Although, she's only been there for a month and a half, she was touchy. She loved giving hugs at any given second. But she was just my roommate. It wasn't a romantic touch and I felt like I was never going to experience that romantic touch again.
It was nearly five months since I've held someone's hand like this and I honestly didn't know how to feel about it. I was scared. I've only been on one date with Jared so I didn't know anything about him but I felt so good about being with him, but also so scared. This is exactly how I felt with Harry. I felt so safe. So ready to see what was coming next. It was always an issue with me when I had to think about the next thing coming, but with Harry, I was ready for anything. And after just one date, I'm feeling it again, but God this time, I'm terrified.
We had already driven across half of the island and I was getting a bit curious on why it was taking us so long to get there. I felt like we had already passed all the houses and we were just going into the middle of nowhere. When I started to see the town slowly fade away, I started to feel a bit strange due to how far we were heading.
"You alright?" Jared asked while now rubbing my hand with his thumb. I quickly looked up at him a bit curious as to why he suddenly asked me that.
"I'm fine, why do you ask?"
"Well, your breathing is becoming a bit uneasy if I'm being honest," he said with a small comforting smile. I gave him a weak smile as I now felt bad.
"No, I'm fine, I swear. Just thinking..." I said.
"About?"
"Lots of things," I said with a shrug. "But one of the things I'm thinking of is as to why we're headed so far," I said now with a bit more confidence. His smile turned into a smirk while he let out a small chuckle.
"I don't live in that part of town," he simply said.
"So where do you live?" I asked getting a bit closer to him.
"Right there," he said dragging my hand in the air to point straight ahead. I turned and looked straight ahead to see something I honestly forgot about. It was the rich side of the island. Most of the mansions were on this side with a bunch of overpriced shops.
The mansions were beautiful. I was honestly in shock. I haven't seen a mansion since I left my own.
"You live in one of these?" I asked a bit louder, in shock.
"Is it a bad thing?" he asked with a laugh. I quickly shook my head while now sitting back in my seat.
"Not at all," I said quietly.
We continued to drive down the road and while we drove by the mansions, I felt like I was experiencing a bit of culture shock, though I grew up in one, it felt weird coming back. Finally, we turned into a long driveway that led up to a giant white mansion. While the road was a bit windy, the house was covered a bit by the trees all around his yard. He drove quickly and swiftly up his long driveway, then finally we were parking right in front. We both opened up our doors to get out, while Jared jumped out, I let my legs hang out the car, trying to get out.
