Chapter Thirty-Seven: Sync!

“No!” Maya snapped. “To my knowledge Arc’s array of abilities does not consist of that skill.” Both I and Niamh turned our heads puzzled by the sudden intrusion. Maya raised one eyebrow sensing that he was not welcome. “What! I could not sleep so I thought I would join you two. Why, is that a problem?” He grinned and trotted towards one of the kitchen cupboards. I turned my head back at Niamh and gestured her to ignore Maya and carry on with our conversation. Niamh glanced in Maya’s direction, a sense of annoyance radiating from her expression. “You said I was wrong, could you explain?” Maya opened the cupboard and took out a cup to prepare a drink for himself, he turned his head around noticing that our drinks were almost finished, “Would you like we to make some juice for you two?” I glanced down at my cup and bobbled my head up and down but Niamh rejected the offer and shook her head. “Ok then. So as I was saying. Arc has a very basic ability-” I squinted at Maya, what was that supposed to mean. He paused for a moment and lifted his hand up gesturing a thumbs up to me and then continued,” Arc has a very basic ability as a God Candidate, he has developed very quickly thanks to my training and has almost caught up with the basic bodily enhancements that all other God candidates have. He has learned to mediate and even connect with his surrounding without having to focus within a short amount of time, which I will have to say I am truly impressed by, but he is not like any other candidate.” My look towards Maya softened, he had never complimented me in such a way and I felt proud of myself. He finished making the drinks and sat at the table between me and Niamh, and finally passed me my drink. “Arc has the ability to not only connect but sync with other living beings.” Niamh’s gaze shifted from Maya to me “let me explain in more detail. A normal candidate, when connected, can sense the presence of other life forms, some can even determine the object but Arc’s rare and unique ability takes it to another level. By merging his targets heartbeat and soul to his own he can control his target with ease.”

Niamh’s just stared blankly at me and asked, “So Arc, you could control any of us if you wanted.” Her voice trembled as the words escaped from her mouth. I smiled subtly and replied, “Well not exactly, it difficult to sync with life form that is strong willed or unwilling to submit to me. Plus I don’t even know the extent of this ability yet-” Maya rudely interrupted, “Stop being so modest, if you train hard you could do anything. In just one day you learnt how to control three animals simultaneously and you have improved dramatically since then.” Both Maya and Niamh smiled at me. “So what exactly can you do once you’ve ‘synced’ with someone?” I felt like I was being interrogated, as soon as I answered once question three more spat out at me. “Well so far I can control the physical movement of my target, I can also see into their mind, so I can see from their prospective, or smell what they smell, and feel what they feel depending on how many I am controlling. I can even supply my own energy into them or take their energy into me. It not all that fun though, if my target is hurt I can feel the pain too or if I try to control above my limit I can lose myself, it’s very risky.” I paused and took a sip of my drink but decided not to continue talking; answering the question had bought back bad memories. Maya sensed my unease and spoke in my place, “The last time Arc tried to sync he was controlling three creatures. Unfortunately he pushed himself too quickly and ended up almost losing his own mind in the process. It was very serious, I will admit, I did panic. I do not know how to explain this exactly but he almost opened up his entire being and starting drawing energy from his surrounding and he overloaded. If I hadn’t knocked him out he would have... Either way he is a lot stronger now and I know he could handle such a situation on his own.”

The was a silence for a few second after Maya spoke but Niamh relinquished it with another question, “What did he do just now then, with my weapon what ability was that?” Maya paused for a moment and responded, “I can’t be too sure, the full nature of this power is rare and thus I have not much knowledge of its full capabilities but I think he synced with your weapon and retracted a memory from its past. How and why...I honestly do not know.” Niamh slowly shook her head and then looked up at me and smirked,” Look at you! Such a basic ability but so much potential, to think of what you could be know if you had arrived here the same time as I did. As soon as the sun rises we are going to train and test out this power of yours!” I smiled back and simply nodded. If I had both Maya and Niamh with me I was sure that I would be fine.
