Chapter Twenty-Seven: Night-time!
As I stepped outside, I glanced up searching for the purple sky, I saw that night but the thick layer of canopy blocked my view. They knew I was not ready; perhaps the sight would cause the memories of that night to come back and haunt me. I wasn’t sure where to go so I just stood outside the hut looking around for the brightest area path to follow but all I could see far and wide were glowing yellow and green lights moving in the darkness that surrounded the village. It reminded me of the times when I lived in Ghana, I used to run outside in the silence of the night and play outside. Back then I was so stupid that fear and danger meant nothing to me, but I was older now and the word fear was a reality that I faced every day. I kind of wished that I was that small again, maybe that would give me the courage I needed to venture out into the lingering woods. They looked so beautiful in the day but at night they looked like giant Ents! The mere thought sent chills down my spine.

Maya opened the door and glared at me. “Afraid of the dark?” He let out a bellowing laugh that to my understanding should have woken up the whole village but it reminded silent. The sound of laughter echoed into the trees, bouncing around until I felt like the trees too were mocking at me. I turned back at Maya and straitened my posture; try to appear bigger than his childish mockery. “No!” I replied, “I was just...just looking around.” I coughed. Maya smirked went back inside,” Your only wasting time!” He shouted from inside.

I looked around to make sure none of the villagers were awake; it would make the situation far more embarrassing. I quickly ventured into my spiritual state to make sure nothing dangerous was nearby, this time I didn’t need to concentrate, it happened so naturally and for the first time I could move and maintain it. I tensed my legs and sprinted north of the village, I couldn’t sense any activity coming from that direction so I could train without disturbance. My speed had quickened. I felt like I could easily win against Maya in a race. It must have been because of the energy flowing through my body. Now that it had changed I realised that before most of my energy originated from one spot, my chest, but now I could feel it flowing all around my body. My body had finally caught up with my mind. As I ran a trail of dust kicked up in the air.

I was soon outside the village and darkness was all that surrounded me. I could barely see where I was going and running at this speed was dangerous but if I stopped I would feel vulnerable to my surrounding. After a several minutes of running I came across a clear patch of grass with enough space for me to clearly meditate. The trees were far away from each other, which created a reasonable sized gap between the canopies. I could see the purple sky but I felt at ease, I had accepted my mistake and relinquished the oath I made that day. I could see a small moon like object in the sky but I was positive that there was more than one. They sky was bright and such a small moon could not possible illuminate the entire sky on its own.  I sat down and took a deep breath; I was time to see just how well I could control the energy within me.
