Chapter Thirty-One: Terror In The Night!
Tiny shockwaves pulsed through the earth, rapidly getting stronger and stronger. I lifter my head up from the ground and glanced up. The trees were swaying violently. They all reached out in one direction, trying to get away from a mutual threat. I fumbled to my feet but a strong gust of wind howled in my direction, knocking me off my feet and sending me hurtling to the floor. I didn’t have time to think. Strange events were taking place around me. I took some advice from the quivering trees and ran. I wasn’t sure where I was running but I knew I was heading in the opposite direction of the quake. I was so perplexed that my entire body shivered. I could barely concentrate or even connect to my spiritual state. I was running, but without my power, I might as well have been standing still. As I ran, my attention was caught by a large bolder nestled behind a tree. I altered my route of destination and took shelter behind it. The tremors pulsated through the ground, inching its way towards me. It was so close now that I could just about make out an even more shell shocking detail. With every pulse that throbbed my way, I could hear a heavy thud. I tuned my ears to focus on that single sound. After a few moments, I could hear the noise clearly. It was the trudging of a beast.I could no longer see the purple sky. Had it too been scared off by this beast? The absence of the sky had left me in near darkness. If it wasn’t for my enhanced senses, I wouldn’t have been able to see a thing. Its footsteps rumbled liked thunder, scattering and spreading in all directions.
The ferociousness of the wind picked up. Leaves and petals darted around me, slamming into obstacles and picking up more debris as it travelled. I had to get out of there. If whatever was heading my way wasn’t enough, all the spiralling rubbish would end up colliding into me. I sat there panicking up until I heard the great bellow of the beast. An almost omnipotent roar echoes through the trees along side an equally powerful force that crackled through the atmosphere. The air itself squealed. The roar was so powerful; the chaos that surrounded me was converted into a silent whimper. With a single footstep this great beast had spread nothing but terror but with a single rousing roar, the same terror it had composed silenced itself. I held my breath; somehow it made me feel safer. A monotonous silence filled the air. I was nervous that my breathing would extinct it. By holding my breath I felt invisible and in tune with my surrounding. My mind was at ease but my heart was drugged on adrenaline. My mind and body were out of sync. My time was up; I couldn’t hold my breath any longer. It was time for me to take that inevitable breath that I dreaded. I attempted to stabilize my heart beat but this only made me lose focus. I exhaled loudly. As the gases escaped from my lungs I realised that I had just made a mistake. I clasped my hands around my mouth and nose, wishing that I could have a second chance to do the right thing.
My heart beat increased even further. I began to get nauseous but out of nowhere a small pebble hit me on my forehead. The pain from the impact sent a numbing effect around my head and eventually spreading around my body. I was pleasantly surprised by the effect this had on the rest of my body. My heartbeat suddenly decelerated forcing me into a tranquil state. I could finally concentrate. It was extremely suspicious that such a small object had hit be with such force, especially since the wind had stopped blowing. I sat behind the boulder for several seconds, pondering but my attention was redirected to the danger that was somehow tracking me down. I sensed the rest of my environment trying to devise a plan. A plan of action that would get me far away, safely and quickly.
