Chapter Eight: A Change Of Scenery!
“Darkness. Again, seriously what was this place and darkness?” I was going to rant when I realised that I was talking and I could actually hear myself and feel my body, INTACHT! Not dived, or floating, nothing abnormal. So why can I only see blackness? “Your eyes are closed!” I heard a disappointed whisper, “Open them!” I swiftly realised that my eyes really were closed, for some reason I couldn’t tell if I had them open or not, but yet again with some assistance I had triumphed! I slowly opened my eyes, after all this transitioning from darkness to bright lights, I had learned one thing at least and that was to never open your eyes quickly, unless you wanted light whiplash!

Straight away I knew I wasn’t on earth. The air was slightly denser and the atmosphere seemed harsher. It took a few seconds to adjust to this but I would live. “Elphis?” I whispered out reluctantly, I wasn’t going to risk shouting, watching too much TV had taught me that you never know who is nearby so don’t randomly shout. “Was that you?” I paused for several seconds but still no reply, “What should I do now?” yet still no answer. I was kneeling on the ground so I stood up and properly observed my surrounding; apparently this wasn’t going to be a simple step by step walkthrough.

It was breath taking. I was surrounded by a thick layer of trees, I looked up to follow them but they just went on and on. The trees where blessed with large trunks, and from what I could see no branches. Only leaves spread out wide at the top, letting a reasonable amount of light through. The grass was similar to back home except it looked healthier. Every flower possessed a unique glow. The ground was covered in grass, flora or moss. Not much brown could be seen. As I looked around I noticed just how tranquil everything was, this was a camper’s dream, but I wasn’t a camper. I hated greenery. Back when I was a child in Ghana I loved it but ever since we moved to England my love dwindled, but somehow these few moments were sparking that love again.

As much as I enjoyed this scenery, I had to keep moving. A gentle breeze brushed behind me almost advising me on where to go. I didn’t trust it; it couldn’t be a coincidence that just as I was about to decide where to go a gust of wind tells me where to go, so I went the opposite direction.
