Hockey bags
Too big for a normal person to carry
Ice skates
Marking up ice that's been driven over and over and over again to make it smooth
Bleachers
Left with candy wrappers and mushed fries and half drunk sodas
From the concession upstairs
This city thinks it's a hockey town
With poor class skaters
Who think they're all that and more
But if they were put in the big leagues
They'd be water boys
Towel boys
And scrap
Dreams can only be so big
And when dreams do not equal skill
Nobody wants to talk about it
And nobody can improve
Because there's programs to improve here

Some of them think they can make it big
But others
Just want to play some hockey
With people they like
Because it gets them out of the office

So
The arena is open
For wannabe hockey jocks
After the dreaded nine to five
The building makes them feel like they could be more
Opened late
Invites the people to come and watch their hometown dreamers
Just so that everybody here
Can feel like they belong
To something
