Your hand slightly adjusted on top of the resurrection stone. Biting your lip, hesitant sparks of flint burst inside your mind, igniting a wildfire.

I'm really doing this.

The gentle swaying of the breeze outside in the courtyard reminded you of your greater purpose. Its shrillness casting a sudden deterministic value inside of you. The night sky looked more stunning than usual, perhaps visiting the dead wouldn't be so bad.

But before your hand could open the spirits that resided in the stone, footsteps caught your attention. Almost stealthy but in a manner where it was intentional.

"Who's here?" The stillness of the air cause frenzy to break out in your mind. The shadows of the dark covering up your surroundings as you move your body, trying to scrutinise a figure. But when no one responds, you sigh audibly. "Show yourself."

There was a slight pause in the atmosphere, and then you felt the loving pair of arms encircle your waist. Your body freezes under his warm touch. His swift moves as always, were undetected by you.

"Sev, what are you doing here? I thought I told you not to follow me."

His thumb moved downward, stroking your belly to provide some comfort.

"I couldn't help myself." He admits with a bashful smile. "I need you to stay strong." He whispers in your ear, "when you see certain people, hold your stance." a gentle prowess tone held within his dark enigma.

"Why are you telling me this now?"

His arms hold you closer, your stiff back against his built chest. "I was busy today. All day." He murmurs into your ear, causing you to feel tingly. You figured he was already feeling a bit guilty and so, you let it go.

"You're always busy." You mutter back. You felt his chest heave a little.

"I'll try not to be, for your sake." He responds with a mild shrug. His warmth engulfing your cold heart.

"Sev?"

"Yes, my dear?" His finger lifts your chin. You stare up at his pretty pale features. His eyes much more hauntingly beautiful in their monotonous look.

"You should leave me be."

His eyes widen. Startled by your sudden change of demeanour, he backs away. Leaving you feeling cold once again. You turn around to face him, an incredulous expression planted on his striking face.

"Unfortunately I will not. I'll remain behind—"

"I said, leave. This is my personal moment and I don't want you to join." You breathe out. Hoping he wouldn't take your boundaries as an insult or whatever it was. Your lips twitch slightly, not used to pushing him away.

His stoic face flickers with a frown, yet it wipes away, the same direction the wind was headed in. His raven eyes were shining underneath the pale moonlight. "You want me to leave?" He questions you rather than agree.

"Look, I'm not trying to push you away on purpose...I just want to do this myself. I need closure." You say, licking your chapped lips.

After a moment of brief contemplation, Severus nods.

"I understand, Y/N. You do what you must and if privacy is what you wish for, it is my responsibility to oblige." He says with a rather stubborn look on his face, you let a smile slip.

"Then what are you waiting for? The exit is right there." You point with your eyes, his lip twitches and he holds back a groan.

Your hand tightens around the resurrection stone, watching Snape's cloak billow behind him, as he majestically exits the courtyard.

Was this really a good idea? What if I need him. What if I can't do this? Then what? I'll just stand here and think about how badly I messed up.

No. I already made this choice, no backing down now. This is my fate. It always has been.

And just like that, you learn to activate the beautiful stone. It's hue lighting up each shadow that was hidden, encapsulating the beauty of it all.

Your eyes flutter open.

London was the first person you lay your eyes upon. Goosebumps crawl on your arms, and so instinctively, your arms wrap themselves.

His eyebrows weren't furrowed, but relaxed, and his lips portray a soft smile. You didn't know if it was that pleasant feeling arising in your chest or the mysterious environment, but you knew you had missed his presence.

"Don...you exist in this universe...you really are here." It's like you couldn't find the exact words. Brunette curls lay perfectly on his flawless skin, forehead. His calculating eyes now rich with curiosity.

It felt surreal for you.

His hand reaches out to grab your cheek, and you let him. Feeling a shudder escape your body. Uneven breath and a tightening in your chest. Seeing his face made your lips quiver in sadness.

"I've always been here. I've been watching over you."

His voice melted the fear away. He was smiling, his soul light and joyful. And for a second, you felt yourself give into his illusion—of him existing in your mind like nothing happened at all. The good old days.

"I miss you everyday, Don."

He chuckled. "Don't be stupid. I'm right here." You wanted to hug him, feel his spirit in yours, forever. Yes, he was right here, your best friend stood in front of you with his mischievous expression. But it was an altered state of him.

"Promise me, that you'll keep watching over me."

His lips connect and they form a minuscule smile. "I promise." He repeats after you. "Now, I know exactly what you need, I have the information for you."

After the intense session, your body collapses onto the stone ground. Body now weightless and feeling airy. A fresh wave of calmness wash over you. The resurrection stone, no longer working. You had used it to its full extent.

You hadn't even wasted time in greeting your parents. They had stood behind London, staring mindlessly at your conversation. It was like a marathon and they weren't able to catch up.

You felt resentment, a deep feeling of rooted anger for your parents. But now that you had seen them after so long—you felt relief. They were together in the after life. Even if they had left you so soon.

"Don, I know you're watching over me right now. Thank you for your help."

"Does knowing that vital piece of information cause you to reflect in gratitude?" Severus's voice drawls out from behind.

"Sev." You acknowledge his intriguing presence, still feeling jittery.

"How did your reunion go? Perfect as planned perhaps? I assume not, merely judging by your sorrow filled face. Tell me, dear. What is the matter?"

"It just made me more upset." You respond, holding back another tear. It was true, you hadn't healed yet. "I even saw my parents, we didn't talk much. I just stared at them. It sort of felt like they knew my emotions. We didn't even have to speak, because we knew what we were already thinking." You sigh.

"Come here." Severus's arms slither over to yours, pulling you up from your misery. His comfort brought you back to your senses. After all you had him to rely on. A soft smile peeks out from your lips. He holds you close.

"At least I know what I have to do now."

Severus hums, but his heartbeat was an irregular pattern and you didn't know why. Your head tilts back to observe his stoic face.

"What is it?" He questions, slightly defensive on his part.

"Is something the matter?" You ask him. The night was causing you to feel more anxious.

"Nothing." He responds. Although you had caught that micro-movement of his sullen expression before. It wasn't new.

You're hiding something from me.
