Temporary goodbye

"Caroline, take care of yourself. Bye." Gauri spoke as Caroline left from the hospital along with Stephanie and Jack.

"Bye! Take care of dad." Caroline said as she sat in the car.

Soon after Caroline, Stephanie and Jack had gone, Gauri went back to Lucas' room, to see Om dozed off on his chair. He looked pretty uncomfortable in his position. Gauri's hand involuntarily moved ahead, to support his neck that was uncomfortably hanging between his shoulder and his fist, that was apparently there for his support.

"Don't wake him up, he's just managed to close his eyes. He's been awake long enough." Lucas spoke in a low voice, as he noticed Gauri moving towards the sleeping figure.

They had been in the hospital for three days straight now. Lucas was now released of a few wires, but he was still under observation. Om had been updating the Oberoi's about when he would return back to his sister's wedding which would be starting in the coming two days.

"Fine, but he looks so uncomfortable." Gauri said, pulling her eyebrows together, worry laced her voice.

"And your heart breaks to see that, doesn't it? Poor little heart of Miss Heartbreak Sharma.." Lucas teased and Gauri's stomach fluttered in butterflies.

"Shut up and sleep. Do you not wish to go home? Plus, you sound like an old senile grandpa" Gauri mocked.

"Whatever you say, Heartbreak Sharma." Lucas said grinning.

Within the time of a day, Lucas was discharged under home nursing and Gauri and Omkara took him home.

"Thank you." Lucas thanked the pair for the nth time as he comfortably laid on his bed.

"How many times are you going to say that?" Gauri asked.

"I dunno. Every time." Lucas said with a smile.

"Well, your diet is on the fridge and I'm going to make sure you don't miss out on anything. Exercise, diet, every single thing will be checked." Gauri told him.

"Wait, you're staying? What about the wedding?" Lucas asked, surprised.

"Obviously, I'm not going anywhere? Do you need a reminder of what happened when I left?" Gauri spoke and Lucas noticed Om's stressed face.

"What about you? Don't you want her to be at your sister's wedding?" Lucas asked, knowing he'd be under strict rule if Gauri stayed any longer. He was looking for a way out, so that he could enjoy a little freedom. Sarcastically.

"As much as I'd love her to be there, I know you need her assistance. Remember what the doc said, complete rest. And who better than a doctor herself?" Om spoke. In the span of these two three days, Om and Lucas had managed to befriend each other.

"Gauri, Priyanka won't like it." Lucas spoke.

"She's fine with me not attending her wedding, she understands." Gauri folded her hands over her chest, knowing Lucas would find some or the other way to send her away.

"Please, for Christ's sake. Just, go. There's Caroline, Stephanie, Jack and plus I can arrange for a house nurse. You met Priyanka after three years. Pleaseeee GO!" Lucas begged her.

"Seriously, you're representing the James' fam over there. Go, we're fine here." Caroline spoke backing her father's side in the argument.

"Care, come on." Gauri spoke, battling herself whether she should go or not.

"It's not right to leave you here and enjoy all alone" Gauri spoke, unsure of her own decisions.

"What? You're gonna be the typical good old daily soap wife material kind of person? Go and enjoy! You know that I'm fine, medically, emotionally, and physically. Never have you let society's barriers trap you, then why now?" Lucas asked genuinely and it seemed to work somehow.
