The sisters walked back home which was nearby anyways. They discreetly turned the knob and let themselves in, knowing it was very late. They looked around the dark living area, and let out a breath of relief.
"Hello, girls. Had fun?" their mother's voice came from the high chair that was placed in the corner of the living area.
Janki turned on the lights, making sure that she was able to see her daughters and her daughters were able to see her.
At the sudden emission of light, Gauri and Isha's eyes shut close.
"Mum! Ouch!" Gauri expressed, opening her eyes slowly to adjust to the light.
"You said you weren't going out with me because you wanted to stay in. The moment I put my foot out, you set out on a rendezvous with your sister. What am I too boring for the two of you?" Janki voiced, sounding offended.
"It's not like that.." Gauri opened her mouth to explain but Isha cut her off.
"It's because of me." Isha declared.
"Explain please." Janki said, folding her arms on her chest.
"I came back from my date and I told her to go out with me, for a sisters night." Isha answered.
"Sister's night? You could have gone tomorrow too. You-" Janki said pointing at Gauri, "Were supposed to rest and get your mind off of things." She then pointed towards Isha, "You were supposed to have a long date night." Janki finished.
"Well, my boyfriend broke up with me, so I replaced my sister for my date." Isha answered casually.
"What?" Janki asked, confused.
"Krish broke up with you?" She asked.
"Yes."
"Why?"
"You don't wanna know." Isha spoke, swallowing all the pain that this conversation was causing her.
"Alright." Janki said, not pushing further.
"Do you want to wallow?" Janki asked, in concern.
"No, I don't want to wallow for someone who didn't respect me and our relationship as much as I respected it." Isha spoke.
"It's not for him, it's for you." Gauri said, rubbing Isha's arm to console her.
"I just want to sleep it off. Please?" Isha requested.
"Anything you want." Janki agreed and they all returned to their respective bedrooms.
The next morning, Gauri woke up to the smell of sambar. The smell was too captivating to ignore it. Gauri quickly pulled the blanket off of her body and went into the kitchen.
"What the-" Gauri's eyes widened as she took in the view of Isha cooking early in the morning.
"Morning!" Isha greeted with a big smile.
"Morning," Gauri mumbled as she walked into the kitchen.
"What is going on?" Gauri asked, looking around the kitchen.
"I am cooking breakfast for all of us. You love dosas, mum loves Idlis, so I decided to make them for you." she chirped.
"But, you hate south-indian food." Gauri spoke, her eyebrows furrowed in utter confusion.
"I'm turning into a new leaf. I'm trying new things, I'm changing." Isha answered, cooking the sambar.
"Whoa whoa, please tell me this has nothing to do with Kr-" Gauri started but Isha cut her off.
"Shh! Not that name anymore, but yes, this is because of him. He didn't want me the way I was, so I'm going to change." Isha declared.
"Are you nuts! You are great just the way you are! You should not change because some stupid guy couldn't handle your awesomeness." Gauri expressed.
"I know, but I need to change, if I don't then I won't be able to move on." Isha spoke in a quiet tone.
"I totally understand, but change for yourself, not for that nut-bag!" Gauri tried to make her understand.
"That's what I'm doing."
"Honey, that's not what you're doing." Gauri said.
"I am changing for myself. I know I am." Isha confirmed and Gauri let out a sigh.
"Fine. As long as I get a good, tasty breakfast." Gauri shrugged.
