Jennie didn't reply.
"Since Master Manoban caught the bug at Miss Kim's house, it will probably be most suitable if Miss Kim were to take care of Master Manoban," Zuo Qiu continued.
Jennie once again remained silent.
She felt that there was no doubt that Zuo Qiu was Lisa's assistant. Both of them shared the same quality of being utterly shameless, so much so that Zuo Qiu would definitely think up more reasons if she declined the offer.
"I'll pass you Master Manoban's address and phone number. It's best you leave for his house now. Although, Master Manoban probably wouldn't have had breakfast yet," Zuo Qiu replied.
"As his assistant, isn't it your job to prepare breakfast for your boss in the morning?" Jennie complained.
"Hey, I live quite far away from Master Manoban. He lives on the Eastside while I live on the Westside whilst the company's northbound. It would be too big a round for me to make. If I were to arrive late for work because I was out delivering breakfast to Master Manoban, I won't qualify for my participation bonus. I'm an assistant, not a babysitter. Employees don't care about the life and death of their bosses." Zuo Qiu suddenly realized he might have accidentally expressed his hidden thoughts and quickly changed the topic.
"Oh no, there's another huge load of files coming my way. Can't talk anymore. I'm hanging up now. Remember to hurry over, Miss Kim! Otherwise, no one would realize if Master Manoban were dead at home."
He hung up immediately after this.
Jennie was speechless.
Zuo Qiu felt a little guilty hanging up the phone, and with shaky hands quickly sent a WeChat message to Lisa. "Master Manoban, no matter what Miss Kim tells you, please remember that the sun and moon shall bear witness to my loyalty for you. No matter what I've said, it's for your own good and for the completion of this mission. Don't believe anything Miss Kim says about me! ┗(T﹏T)┛"
Lisa was sitting on his bed, wrapped up like a cocoon – his fever was killing him. Although it was not high, he still felt a little cold.
There was a picture in his hands with a date printed on it. There was no digital camera back then, so this was a picture taken with film.
The picture quality was so-so, but it was still in good condition. It had obviously been kept well. The young boy in the picture was sitting under a tree. A little girl about six to seven of age was sitting in his arms with her hair tied into pigtails. The young boy was wearing a Chinese tunic suit-styled school uniform while the little girl had on the orphanage's official uniform. Both of them were smiling brightly. The little girl was smiling so happily that her eyes squinted into a Line.
Lisa recalled that at the time, there were no smartphones with built-in cameras. Moreover, it was impossible to take selfies with film cameras. Thus, Lisa had used up all the film in the camera by taking tons of pictures before developing them and picking out the best picture.
He did not realize he was smiling at the camera when he suddenly heard the WeChat notification on his phone. He gripped the photo as he reached out from under the blanket and grabbed his phone.
He opened the message sent by Zuo Qiu and replied, "What terrible things have you said?"
After a while, Lisa sent another message, "Also, do you think your future Mrs. CEO is someone who would talk bad behind another's back?"
Zuo Qiu was close to crying when he received the first message. When he received Lisa's second message, he immediately kneeled down on the spot.
He shakily typed a reply, "Master Manoban, I've been really busy without you around. I'll stop chatting now and get back to work. Do have a good rest!"
Lisa ignored him after receiving the message. He was about to put his phone away when it rang again, vibrating steadily in his hand.
Lisa looked down and saw that it was Jennie calling. However, the screen did not show Jennie's name but instead displayed the words 'Sticky Rice'.
Lisa's eyes became warm as he looked at the familiar nickname. He was not even aware that his lips had curved into a wide smile.
He had gotten Zuo Qiu to find out Jennie's phone number, then quietly saved it in his phone. He had never mentioned to Jennie that he had her number.
His phone was currently ringing loudly and vibrating but Lisa did not pick it up, but instead placed the phone to his side. The call automatically went to voice message but started ringing again in less than a minute. Lisa continued to ignore it.
On the other end, Jennie eventually hung up and stared at the phone for a while.
It was worrying when someone sick was not picking up the phone. She sighed and changed out of her home clothes, putting on a T-shirt and jeans. She did not waste her time putting on something nice. It was more convenient to take care of a sick person this way anyway.
Jennie was dumbstruck at the thought.
She seemed to care about how she looked to Lisa.
She quickly put on her coat and went to the balcony to collect Lisa's clothes, which had dried by now. She folded them up and put them into a bag. When she picked up the tight, little boxers, her face burned. She quickly put it into a separate bag before putting it into a bag with the rest of the clothes. Meanwhile, her palms were still burning hot from touching it.
As the little boxers could not be washed together with the outerwear, Jennie had to handwash it yesterday, causing her to tremble as she did so. It caused such a huge psychological strain on her that she did not want to recall it. Jennie had no idea how she had managed to get through it.
She packed everything while bluhang, pondering about whether or not Lisa's had any nutritious food in his home. Since he had someone taking care of the household, his house was probably well-stocked. If he was lacking any ingredients, she could still buy them later. If she were to cook congee at her own home, it would be too late by the time she brought it over. After all, Jennie did not know what Lisa's condition was.
With that, Jennie picked up her purse and hurriedly left with everything. Lisa's house did not have a direct train and she was not really familiar with the area. So, she used an app to hail a taxi and let the driver navigate by himself.
...
Lisa boiled some water but did not pour it into the thermos. Instead, he dipped the thermometer into the kettle and took a look at the temperature. It was at the breaking point...
He hurriedly blew at the thermometer to cool it down, but before he could check if it was at a believable temperature, the doorbell rang.
Lisa answered the intercom but did not immediately open the door. Instead, he waited for another two minutes whilst holding down the button for the CCTV, watching Jennie's every move.
Since the door was not opening, Jennie frowned and gave Zuo Qiu a call. "Mr. Zuo, I'm in front of Master Manoban's house. Is his address Ding City 23, Building 1, Unit 1601?"
