"Nothing. I didn't see you when I came home, so I was a little worried," Jennie explained as she went into her bedroom, turned on the lights and threw her bag on the bed. She too jumped into bed.

"My superior caught hold of me right after work. We've been contacting those in T City all the way and there were a mess of documents to go through. We had to work them all the way, I was so battered by it all that I forgot to inform you." Rosé sounded tired on the phone. There was the sound of someone speaking on the phone next to her that sounded exasperated discussing about reaching a certain consensus. It really sounded busy.

"Oh yeah, how was your dinner? Were you taken advantage of?" Rosé asked.

"Yao Xingzhi was indeed fishy. My superior and that Zhu Jingjing tried to get me into trouble but I managed to escape. They didn't manage to do anything to me. I'm resigning tomorrow." Jennie turned to her side as she fiddled with the phone.

"Just resign away. This is a lousy company. Even if you managed to get away this time, but what about next time? You can't always put yourself in such a situation, there will come a time when you can't avoid it. Don't worry about anything this period of time, you still have me to help with the rent," Rosé tried to cheer her up, sounding energetic.

Jennie smiled and chatted a little more with her until she heard Rosé's superior called out to her and hung up.

She lied down on the bed and emptied her mind for a while before getting up to turn on her computer. While the computer was powering up, she took a bath, tidied up a little and changed into her pajamas before sitting down to type her resignation letter.

...

The next day, Jennie came to office early. There were only two people there when she arrived. You Weiwen and Zhu Jingjing had not arrived.

Jennie printed out her resignation letter and saw You Weiwen and Zhu Jingjing came in one after the other when she was walking towards her seat. They met head-on and You Weiwen and Zhu Jingjing were momentarily stunned, looking uncomfortable.

Jennie did not say anything but went back to her seat to tidy up. Just as she prepared to enter You Weiwen's office, she saw Zhu Jingjing going in with him. Her lips curled. These two must be discussing on how to handle the situation from last night.

She made no attempt to avoid them and took her resignation letter to You Weiwen's office, knocking a few times on the door.

She went in without waiting for someone to react from behind the door.

The two of them did not have time to cover up their solemn expressions when they saw her and were both surprised.

Jennie walked directly to the table and gave You Weiwen her resignation letter right in front of Zhu Jingjing, "Manager You, I've come to resign today, which I hope would be effective immediately."

You Weiwen coughed uncomfortably and said, "Jennie, if this is about last night, then we should have a talk. What happened yesterday was a misunderstanding. I did not expect Yao Xingzhi to act the way he did. I can guarantee you will never be caught in another situation like that again. You can work here in peace, how does that sound? You don't need to wait for your probation period to be over either. I'll just give a report to the boss to make you a permanent employee, how is that?"

Jennie made no attempt to hide her sarcasm in her reply. "Manager You, your sudden decency towards me is out of respect for Master Manoban, right? Do you think keeping me here would help with Manoban Group's business?"

You Weiwen was embarrassed only for a second before smiling and said, "Jennie, don't put it that way. It's all a misunderstanding. Why didn't you tell us that you are Master Manoban's girlfriend? You're being so low profile by coming here quietly to our little temple here. If Yao Xingzhi did put his hands on you last night, I would definitely have protected you."

Jennie did not hide her snigger. "Manager You, do you see the word 'stupid' printed on my face?"

"Huh?" You Weiwen was taken aback by her words.

"Since my face is not displaying the word 'stupid', then stop playing me around like a fool. Don't you think I've long been aware of your attitude towards me ever since I joined the company? As for last night, you knew very well if you were really protecting me or pushing me into that abyss of trouble. Do you really think I am a naïve schoolgirl who does not know anything? If it wasn't for Lisa, would you have taken the effort to ask me to stay so nicely? If it wasn't for Lisa, you would have fired me this morning and not the other way round with me resigning, you would have probably taken the time to malign me with different accusations. Even if you don't dare to do anything to me in the future and try your best to butter me up, it's still loathsome for me to stay in this company. The two of you disgust me. I may need a job, but I'm not going to work for someone awful like you."

Jennie had made the decision to resign and had no plans of giving any respect to You Weiwen. She did not clarify her relationship with Lisa. When facing someone like You Weiwen, it was best not to explain things, or he would take the opportunity to push her around.

She might be a fresh graduate who did not know the game of dirty politics, but she was not so naïve as to be blind to any benefits she stood to have. If You Weiwen thought he could gain something from her, then let him continue to think so. After all, the words were from the mouth of Lisa, she was not the one who started that rumor.

She pointed to the resignation letter on the table, and said firmly, "The letter is here, I'll be leaving with immediate effect. If you don't approve of it and start delaying my resignation, I don't care about my reputation anymore and I will bring this to court. From what I gathered, there has been quite a number of people that have been taken advantage of by Yao Xingzhi. There will be some who won't take this lying down like I am. The case may prolong but the longer it lasts, the worse it is for your company's reputation. Think about that."

You Weiwen could no longer maintain a gentle expression, he stood up abruptly. "Jennie, do you need to turn the situation into a deadlock? I'm discussing this very nicely with you, what kind of attitude are you displaying?"

"I'm resigning and all you need to do is approve it to avoid anything unnecessary." Jennie had just finished her sentence when she heard a ruckus outside the office.

You Weiwen frowned and went out of the room to find out what is happening. Zhu Jingjing and Jennie followed behind him.

They saw a middle-aged woman in a chiffon blouse and long pants. She had on reddish-purple lipstick and had a fierce look on her face. She was shouting, "Where is Jennie? Get her to come out here!"

It looked like she came by looking for trouble.

Jennie frowned and stood facing her asking, "Madam, I'm Jennie. How can I help you?"

"You're Jennie?" The woman stared angrily at her and suddenly threw her bag viciously at Jennie's face.

The bag had a golden chain that hit Jennie at the side of the head. She felt a sharp pain and felt her ears were ringing loudly.
