Virgil wasn't prepared for the impact that stroked his chest. He fell to his knees and chocked, feeling winded and a strong case of vertigo. A quiet thought questioned if this were the true reason he couldn't rise up, he was only made to obey Deceit's orders, not to be on par with the other sides. His heart sped faster as he lifted his head to see Roman, the truth blatant as the ground Thomas walked on. They were never meant to be together, were they? Is their love truly forbidden?
"Roman!"
"He will cut himself-"
"-Roman!-"
"-He will never show you his face without makeup,-"
"Sink down, none of that is true!"
"-He will never kiss you!"
Virgil inhaled sharply, squeezing his eyes shut as he shook the memory from his mind. He had shouted those words when they had been escaping the void, Roman's worst fear had been that he would never trust him. Virgil barley noticed the salty tears run down his cheeks. Roman loved him. Roman really did love him. And that's what he needed to remember as he stood to his feet, his fists at his sides and his head held high. He was afraid. He was panicked. He was cut, he was desperate, and he was ready. Virgil was everything that he needed to be.
"Look at me, Forgiveness." He spoke in a steadfast, emphatic voice which came from somewhere deep inside of him. Dark wings sprouted from his back, webbed and slicing like a vampire's cape. Thin ears sprouted on his head and biting fangs emerged from his upper lips. In his clenched fists, purple fibres wove themselves into dodge ball like weapons. He thought of the terrible past few weeks, and all that had happened to him and his friends, and to Thomas. The spirit gave him his full attention, facetiously beaming. Virgil stared hard back. "Listen up, Forgiveness. I don't know what you claim to know, but let's be clear that nothing those scriptures say matter. Remus is not evil, Janus is not evil, I am not evil!"
"Shut up!" The spirit yelled, his face snapping to anger. "If you had stayed in the dark side, nay, if you had obeyed your master, none of this would be happening. Vengeance is here because of you. He attacked the light side because of you. Janus hurt Logan because of you, he is abusive because of you."
Virgil pointed inwards to his chest with one firm finger, the weapons in his fists growing larger by the second. "No, my Father loves me, he loves Remus and he loves Thomas. You're the one who doesn't care! You failed to defeat Vengeance twenty odd years ago and now you're afraid to accept us all for who we really are. Vengeance is attacking us because of you!"
Virgil's ears pricked and the walls came to life, with the sound of his own strength echoing off the walls, ten fold. He threw the balls as hard as he could at Forgiveness, who yelped as the one encapsulated either foot and fastened him to the ground. The neon gloop was impossible to pull from as the spirit tried his might. At last he stopped, his jaw gritted.
"Virgil's power is to be able to fly like a bat, use echo location and to create bubbles of sticky sap which can mobilise his opponent. It just so happens that the more passionate he feels the stronger the weapon." Forgiveness spat. At last he broke free, leaving a shimmering aurora around the broken down sap. Small shrapnels invaded his ankles, causing a number of small irritating cuts.
Roman caught Virgil's eyes. "Are you okay, storm cloud?"
"Yeah," he breathed in response. He stepped forward, grabbing the front of his sash and leaning into his chest.
