Remus slept atop Virgil's bed for the duration of the day, his heart throbbing and racing between surges of guilt ridden awakenings. Asleep, awake, asleep awake, each time sicker and more painful than before.

How was he to survive without Deceit, his Father, the man who had cared for him for his entire life? Had he made a mistake?

Remus cried helplessly into his pillow, so distracted by shame he barely noticed as the bedroom creaked door opened and Virgil slowly traipsed inside.

"Remus," Virgil spoke as he crouched beside his brother, reaching out and stroking his hair. Remus moved his head evasively at first, before letting the emo's pale fingers run through his mane. "Please don't cry anymore, I don't like seeing you like this."

Remus lifted his head sickly, purple bags of exhaustion hanging under his eyes and constant water rolling down his face.

"I love you, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he breathed staggeredly.

Virgil tilted his head, the all too familiar beats of worry fluttering in his chest. "I love you too, but why are you sorry?"

Remus shook his head. "Deceit, Father, I'm sorry. I betrayed him, I love him still, and I'm so sorry. I wish he still loved me, oh Virgil..."

Virgil wrapped his arms around Remus's shoulders, digging his head into his arm. "I understand how you feel; I've done this before when I joined the light sides. But this is so important Remus, do you want to know why?"

Remus nodded vaguely, creating eye contact with his brother. Virgil smiled through the uncomfortable knot in his stomach, releasing his pain in one long exhale.

"Love, platonic love, I know how it's supposed to feel now. I never had it from a father before I came here, and now you get to feel it too."

Remus sighed shakily. "Father loves me."

"Off course," Virgil replied wisely. "He loves you because you are his son. But the people who love you the best don't hold it against you. Deceit uses his love as a weapon."

"No, no he doesn't."

"Remus, listen to yourself. You are terrified your love will be taken from you; healthy love isn't like that. The best love is unconditional, the same kind I get every day from each and every light side, even Thomas. The mistakes I make, the faults of mine, even the horrible panic attacks I cause, they will never be enough to stop my friends from loving me."

Remus slowly lowered his head back on his pillow, his voice cracking.

"Do you think Father still loves us?"

Virgil was quiet for several moments. "I'm not sure, but I bet he does. I don't know how anyone could not love someone as amazing as you."

Remus smiled through his tears. "Thank you Virgil, I love you, I missed you so much."

"Glad we're back together," Virgil smirked. "Now get over it, Dukey."
