The black shadow of vengeance muffled Logan's scream, dragging him backward so his head rested against his chest.

"Don't run away," the voice cooed. "I need you, you're the perfect victim for my plan." The bathroom door was locked shut, there was nowhere to escape. All he could do was submit as the shadow pinched his nose, pouring a crimson vile down his throat. "There, good boy..."

The shadow released his hold, allowing Logan to struggle to his feet, gripping the edge of the basin and staring into his dishevelled eyes. There was a vague aurora of red in his pupils, the embodiment of pure malice taking hold.

"Please, Vengeance..."

"Ha! You know I ensure more than just vengeance; I am the spirit of evil."

Logan shook his head. He was in a state of disbelief- he couldn't believe this was happening to him again. Was he really so easy to manipulate? To hurt?

"I don't understand. I'm not a Dark Side."

The shadow hummed. "No, but you've already shown me how vengeful you can be. I simply plan to steal your energy for my own plan."

"But what you're doing isn't logical!"

The shadow laughed, caressing the logical side's shoulders. "The dark side isn't about logic, Logan. It's about fear. Paranoia, Intrusive thinking, Deceit, it's all there."

"Why must you value fear?"
The Spirit of Evil smirked. "Because fear left uncheck boils over into anger, and anger leads to dominance and power. All the dark sides desire power, it's in their nature."

Logan clenched his fists. "Not Virgil."

The shadow taped his chin thoughtfully. "Anxiety himself is special, he's been able to manipulate his instincts in a way that should be impossible. He's domesticated, and wears a collar and leash like a dog. But Deceit refuses to be caged, he will not kneel to anyone else's mercy. He fears submission, he demands control. Are you beginning to understand that?"

Logan swallowed comprehensively. "So why is Virgil different?"
"Humans, Logan. Humans have found a way to slowly breed their instincts out of them. If the theory of natural selection is correct, it won't be long until Anxiety is completely absent from the human mind. But malice and deceit? These evil traits are too hard wired to be bred out, they are at the human core. Destruction, murder, hatred. Even in the idealistic, lawful society we have today thousands are abused, raped and killed. It is what we are born to do."

"Are you suggesting Thomas is hard wired to be a murder?"

"Without you, he would be, without a doubt." The Spirit of Evil snarled. "That is why you make for the perfect victim."

Logan could feel his logic slipping away, Vengeance planting the seeds which sprouted in his mind.

"Please don't do this, Thomas needs me."

The shadow pouted. "Relax, let revenge take its course."
