Remus sat himself in the witness box, his eyes meeting Janus's worried gaze. Don't worry Father, I'm going to help you.

"Remus, you were forced into helping Deceit capture and injecting Logan and Patton, correct?"
"No," he replied in a dark undertone. Roman instantly felt a shot of pain slam into his gut, the seriousness in his brother's tone unusually unheard of. "I did it of my own accord, he didn't force me to do anything."
"Objection!" Janus raised his voice. "Just because I didn't put a gun to his head doesn't mean he wasn't forced. I was an overhanging threat."

"No," Remus clenched his jaw adamantly. "I love you Father, and would willingly follow you everywhere."
"Don't call me that," Deceit barked with tears in his eyes. "I am a bad person, who has done bad things to you, and you'd better stick to that narrative!"

Roman cleared his throat, banging his gavel against the desk. "You know you just admitted to being guilty, right?"

Deceit sighed, closing his eyes and letting water flood his cheeks. "Yes, we all know I'm guilty. It's ridiculous you guys have even entertained this for so long."

Patton's stood. "Objection, Janus, come on, we can still win this thing."
"You're kidding, right?" Deceit gestured around the courtroom exaggeratingly. "Logan says I've injected him, everyone agrees I threw you both in a cell, and the worst part is that is all true!"
Remus looked destroyed. "No, please Father, keep fighting. Think about it, at least a third of this court still believes you are innocent."
"Stop lying to yourselves!"

"Order! Order in the court!" Roman bellowed, thudding his gavel heavily against the table. "Deceit is right; this has been going on for far too long." He paused for several moments before clearing his throat. "Deceit, I sentence you to a year's jail time."

"Roman!" Remus growled.

Deceit made a shushing sound, lowering his voice. "Remus, listen to me. Sometimes, people are going to be punished, regardless of how much you love them. It's okay, I promise. Besides, year is a lot less than I would have given me."

Virgil bowed his head from the stand, glancing at Patton who was weeping silently and then to Thomas who appeared broken. Then out of the corner of his eye he saw Logan. He was smiling a terrible, evil grimace, satisfaction shimmering in his eyes. This is not my Logan.
