Reader's discretion required. Read at your own risk. This chapter deals with attempted rape, which many might find unsettling to read.
However you can still read this chapter without having to read the graphic parts. Just don't read beyond the first ♣️ sign you reach. Scroll down and when you reach the second ♣️ sign, directly resume reading from there. The part which you'll miss won't affect your knowledge of the plot in anyway.
E L L O R A
Drip. Drip. Drip.
Somewhere, someone has left a tap open. Water drops are falling, maintaining a systematic timing. That's the only sound I can hear for the last I-have-no-damn-idea-how-many-minutes. It is starting to grate on my nerves now- the infuriating sound of water droplets.
Drip. Drip.
Hugging my legs to my chest, I place my hands over my ears, trying to un-hear the sound of the open tap.
According to the deal, I told Vittorio what Mr.Langdon asked me to. I kept word by each word of his deal. When Vittorio asked me about the notes, I said what I was asked to say. Vittorio had given me a sharp glance that could've frozen hell.
I kept quiet. According to the deal, I had said my part. There was nothing more for me to say. And yes, I was almost desperate to follow the conditions of the deal word by word, because I was desperate for answers. Of course, it would've been better if my part of the deal was he agreeing to release me. But well, I'll live with what I got.
Vitorio had taken a step towards me with eyes colder than the Arctic, and mouthed the words 'tell me'.
I was frozen to my spot under his gaze. He definately didn't look like the frail old man anymore. If this had continued for a few more minutes, I think I would have caved in and told the truth.
Then I had felt cold, lean fingers clasp around my own. For the fraction of a second his fingers tightened around mine before loosening, as if to....to assure me? The action was so small and simple, it could've easily passed as my imagination...only if the feeling of his fingers didn't linger on mine hours after he left. His fingers had then crept up and held my wrist in a firm grip, like keeping me in my spot as a prisoner.
It shouldn't have been, but the feel of his skin against mine was a relief to my mind and body. The warmth of his hand was a tonic to my soul...like surviving Vittorio's glare was nothing, when Mr.Langdon's hands were on mine.
Or maybe I am reading into it more than it actually was? Maybe it was an accidental touch? Or maybe he meant to threaten me by that little action when he realised I was close to blurting out the truth. Maybe it was not meant to relieve me like it did.
Absolutely. That must be it."I'll find from her about the whereabouts of the notes." He said looking impassively at Vittorio. "But I might need a few days with her."
Vittorio had stared at us with a hard face. And than with a stony voice he had said, "You know Abraham, I don't give people second chances. But you, have proven yourself worthy a number of times. And I know to award people when they deserve it. Consider it a reward. I will give you time to bring out information from this girl."
We were dismissed.
Mr. Langdon hadn't let go of my hand after that, as we walked hand in hand, in absolute silence through another corridor.
