E L L O R A
"P-profesor."
"Yes?" He asks without looking up. He is currently sitting on the rooftop veranda, his legs dangling down the side, studying something intently from a bunch of papers in his hands, some other papers and books are scattered around him.
"Can I call home?"
He was in the middle of turning a page when he stops abruptly. Dark eyes behind glasses look up at me.
Okay I have known this man for years now. I've been speaking with him on daily basis for months now. Why can't I still react normally to that piercing gaze of his. Why does eveytime he looks at me, it feels as if all my bones are on freaking fire.
"Um, I-I haven't spoken to my parents for a long time. I was s-supposed to return home today. They'll be worried I haven't called them. So unless you let me leave today or tomorrow, I r-really need to call them."
Stuttering! That's what he makes me...a stuttering fool. God, could I get any more embarrassing?
He raises an eyebrow. "No Ellora. I am not letting you go anytime soon. The rest of the students have returned today, they were needed to write a report in campus."
My face falls at this. Getting selected for that institution was a dream come true for me. I had worked my ass off for that stupid exam.
All.
For.
Nothing.
"No need to look so glum. If you continue doing all the assignments I give you everyday, I assure you you'll become way more knowledgeable than any them." He says without looking up.
He takes out his phone from his pocket while continuing to speak, "And tell your parents, you've been selected for an advanced internship program so you will be needed to stay there for a few days." He outstretches his hand with the phone for me to take.
I don't make a move to take it from him though. "An internship? They're never going to believe me."
"Why?"
"Because an internship pays! And there's an unsaid rule between me and papa, that I'd sent my first paycheck to him. If I tell my parents I got an internship, they wouldn't believe me because at the end of the week or at the end of the month I won't have any paycheck to bring to papa."
A muscle in his jaw ticks.
"If money is the problem, I will pay you" Keeping the phone beside him, he turns back towards his papers, as if controlling himself from saying more.
Is this man even serious?
"Are you hearing yourself? Why would I take free money from you?"
He looks up from his papers with a hard look on his face. Then he takes a breath in, and then out as if controlling himself from something. Then keeping his papers beside him, he gets up and faces me.
Stuttering Ellora comes back within a fraction of a second when he gets up in his full height and starts walking towards me.
It takes my everything to not take a step back.
Because this man, is the definition of intimidating. Heck, breathing the same air as him feels intimidating.
"Listen something very carefully Ellora." He says as he pauses a few steps away from me. "If you think you can complain to your dear papa, and call the cops on me, go ahead. Just remember, I have your brother on live with me. I know what he is doing, where he is, whom he is with, what shirt he is wearing, every second of everyday. Every wrong step you take is going to effect your brother."
