Ranboo and Tommy were back just as the day began, and Wilbur was expecting a story or two from them. Instead, Tommy held himself back to let Tina introduce herself as the newest worker at Ranvan. So rather than telling camping stories, they all had a bit of bonding time before the work hours started.
Wilbur tossed one last thank you to Tina before customers came piling in, everything flowed easier with another crew member. Wilbur could tell by how Tina glanced around now and then and the way she talked with Tommy and Ranboo that she felt guilty for wrecking up Tubburger. He doesn't see why, after all, he did the majority of the work. Not wanting to push her too far, but just enough. Still, she looked around with anxious eyes and an ashamed look on her face.
Wilbur was taking Foolish's order, a simple burger with fries. Foolish wanted to be there for Tina's first day of work, but Wilbur could tell it wasn't going to be just the first day. He could also tell that the new guy, Eryn, was right about Tina and Foolish already being best friends. Wilbur noticed the way Tina would almost immediately relax when they spared each other a glance or passed a couple of words. Then she would walk into the van and notice Wilbur, returning to her guilty and nervous state.
Wilbur didn't try to think about it too much, Ranboo was like that too. About three days later there was no sign that Ranboo was still held by guilt or anxiety. So surely Tina would come around too.
He placed the paper with the order onto the counter, where Ranboo would read them off one by one. Then Wilbur turned to the dishes, doing them whenever he wasn't taking orders. Placing the towel back he sees Tommy walk in, carrying more dishes. It was only two plates.
"Wilbur, could we switch now?" Tommy asks as he steps to Wilbur's side. Tina walks by and Wilbur frowns at her expression. Turning to Tommy he flattens his apron with a nod, "Sure Toms."
Wilbur grabs the plates Ranboo's just made and walks out, heading to the respective table. When taking the girl's order he learned that her name was Hannah. Due to the small number of seats, she shared a table with a man who Wilbur found out to be Michael. He placed both plates down with a smile, "Here you are."
With that he turned his heel, walking over to Tina who sat in the shade for a little break. He leaned against the tree, remembering when he hit his head on one of the branches. He leaned his head, looking at Tina. Then he sighed, "Are you all good?"
Tina tried digging the tree root that stuck out of the ground, and with a huff, she turned to Wilbur, "Yes... Maybe."
Wilbur settled a gentle hand on her shoulder, "I told you it's fine. Plus I promised that if anybody got mad I would say it was me and me only, didn't I?"
"You did, but that doesn't mean it's not a bad thing to do."
Wilbur pointed over at the burger van, "Ranboo had to do the same thing. He was acting like this too. Look at him now though, you'll pass this too."
She crossed her arms, "Whatever. I just don't want to be known as the person who immediately starts blowing things up. I'm still new, and I don't want people to think that."
Wilbur felt his stomach twist for only a moment, and he even froze. He shrugged it off and patted Tina's shoulder, "It's fine. Trust me, Tina. I'll take the blame for you. I did the majority of it anyway, but that's only if they get mad. Surely they won't. Quackity didn't last time so why now?"
Tina uncrossed her arms and stepped out of the tree's shadow, "Better hope you're right."
"I am."
Tina walked back into the van, Wilbur deciding to stay to get out of the heat for only a few seconds. He pushed himself off of the tree and stepped towards the burger van. Before his foot could land Quackity appeared in his vision, walking stupidly slow.
