To Be A Hunter

Chapter 13

Once they got to Samuels, Nova didn't feel like going in. She figured this was something they needed to discuss as a family. After they walked in she decided lay down in the backseat. 

After they found out that Samuel's soul was still in tact and that they had a lead on an alpha vamp, Sam and Dean decided to join in on the case. Sam and Dean walked outside and talked a moment. They talked about Dean not trusting Samuel and think he's hiding something. He said he wanted to hang close to see what they pick up since that was the only lead they possibly had when it came to the soulless thing. They started to go back in but Dean suggested they tell Nova what's going on, which was they were sticking around till dawn to help with the case. 

Sam looked in the back window then back at Dean, "She's asleep." 

"Ah." Dean nods once then smacked the air towards the car, "Just let her sleep then." 

Sam nods then they walk back inside to help start preparing for morning. Once it was time to leave they got into the car and started the car up which woke up Nova.

"Oh hey." She sat up and stretched, "Done already?"

"Nova, we've been in there a few hours. We didn't wake you because you could use the sleep." 

"Oh okay, so what's going on, where we heading now?" 

The guys then filled her in on everything that happened while she slept and where they were heading now.  After they got there, Samuel told everyone their places then told Dean and Nova to wait where they were, making Dean roll his eyes. 

"Problem?" Samuel questioned.

"No sir." Dean shook his head. "Just don't know why I've got to be the one staying back with the reject." 

"Gee thanks Dean." Nova rolled her eyes.

Samuel ignored their comments and told them "Let's go." 

Once everyone was gone Nova just looked at Dean with her arms crossed.

"What?" Dean asked when he noticed, "Look, I'm sorry about the reject comment. It's just you're not used to this sorta thing, being out in the field or whatever." 

Nova shook her head, "I've been called worse, sometimes I do feel like a reject. At least in school I was. Anyways," She took a deep breath and let it out, "You're right though, I mean I may know some lore on it but to actually hunt like they are? I haven't done much of it." She rolled her eyes, "But why does it seem like all of a sudden you hate me?" 

"What? I don't hate you. If I did, I wouldn't have invited you over when I was with Lisa and I wouldn't have consoled in you about me and her. Look I was just mad because of the fact Sam confided in you about him letting that vamp get me and you didn't say anything, or that he told you that he knew something was wrong with him. But Sam had a point, it wasn't your responsibility, it was his. And I'm sorry for snapping at you at the hotel and scaring you."

"Well, all is forgiven." She put her hands out and bowed some making Dean chuckle.

"You know, I can see why Sam likes you so much." 

"Why do you say that?" 

"You have an awesome personality, you know how to make people smile when it's needed." 

They hug softly but heard a noise so quickly stop and look around.

"Uh Dean? What was that?" 

Just then Nova was attacked by a vamp. Dean quickly jumped in, grabbed the vamp and slammed him up against the building but then the vamp knocked him to the ground. Nova quickly grabbed her machete and sliced the head off.

"You're welcome." Nova grinned at him. 

Dean just looked at her and stood up wiping his face off.

"So that was what? How many times saving your ass?" Nova joked.

"Chill, you'd be vamp food if I hadn't saved yours first." Dean glared at her.

"True." Nova nodded.

Just then they heard gunshots in the distant and Dean started running.

"Really? Going to leave me by myself here?" She called out after him but he didn't hear her. She just sighed shook her head and looked around, "Just great." 

She then decided to sit on the hood of Dean's car and wait for them. Just then Dean came jogging up.

Nova quickly jumped off the hood, "Where were you?"

He didn't have a chance to answer because everyone walked up. They then loaded up in their vehicles but Nova could tell something was up with Dean by his attitude. 

She leaned up and whisper in his left ear, "What's wrong?"

He just shook his head then him and Sam started talking, well it was more Dean grilling Sam. Nova had sat back but all of a sudden Dean slammed on the brakes, making Nova fly up and hit the back of the front seats. 

"Sorry Nova." He then got out and Sam got out with him. 

Nova just laid down in the backseat as the boys started talking again, she figured they needed to hash this out and it really wasn't her business but she could kind of overhear them since they weren't keeping that quiet. 

"You okay Nova?" Dean asked after they got back into the car.

"Yeah." She nodded with a smile, "I just didn't feel like sitting up." 

They decided to bait Samuel into letting Sam back into the group to find out what he's doing with all the alpha monsters they been going after. When they got close Dean and Nova stayed in the car a few blocks away while Sam went to Samuels.

"You think he's going to come back? Or stay and ignore us?" 

Dean shrugs, "I don't know, I guess we'll find out." 

Pretty soon Sam showed back up which did surprise Dean a bit, Sam mentioned a plan B even though they hadn't talked about one. How Sam turned on the GPS to the mobile phones then he opened up his laptop to bring up the location ping.

Nova smiled, hooked her arms around Sam's shoulder, "Good idea babe." She kisses his right cheek.

Nova left her arms around his shoulders and laid her head on her own arm as Sam found the location he was at so they decided to head there. They figured it would be better if Nova stayed hunched down in the car and she agreed.
