Today was the day, my first meeting as a real, professional lyricist. I wasn't just a backup anymore, I was the real deal. I'd spent all morning getting ready, and most of the car ride primping. I needed to look better than sharp, sexy, elegant, but professional. Because I hadn't read the whole contract, I didn't know who I was meeting, but hey; surprise, am I right? Hopefully it was a girl band, but I knew deep down it probably won't be. Male clients are always a trip to memory lane, and painful memories at that. Bad, scary, painful memories. I arrived at the studio five minutes early, which to me is perfectly on time. Heading inside, I was flurried by mixed emotions.
"Oh, uh, hey! Are you Tessa Bluin?" A woman with a fancy microphone earphone combination asked. I nodded. "Okay, good! You're right on time. Just head down that-" She pointed to the hallway. "Hallway and go to the first door on your left. The band's a little late, but they'll be here soon." She smiled reassuringly. "Thank you!" I said as I walked towards the hallway. It was less of a studio and more of a warehouse, although it was fairly empty. I turned into the door on the left and sat in one of the five chairs. There was a nice little recording center; a plexiglass wall with a tall door and four microphones. There was, what I assumed was, the Black Veil Brides emblem on the wall near the sound mixing and editing area. What a quaint little room. I pulled a pencil from the cup on the desk and got out my notepad. I always take notes.
'Large but quiet studio; blan--' The lead of my pencil snapped. "Dammit," I whispered.
Unable to take down any notes with a broken pencil, I peeked around the doorframe to see if anyone was out there. A short, chubby man in a white suit sat on the computer nearby. I made my way over to him. "Do you have a pencil sharpener?" I asked shyly, trying to control my shaking. Why did this always happen? Why couldn't I stop the queazy feeling in the pit of my stomach?! "Yeah, theres one in the recording studio actually. Where the lyricist is, it's the first left in the hall." He said. I nodded. He must not know I'm the lyricist. I should have looked around before just leaving the room, of course there was a sharpener in there. Making my way back to the room, the shaking coming to a stop. I found the sharpener on the desk and jammed the pencil into it. As I turned around, I heard several men's laugh from the hall. It must be the band! I tucked by hair behind my ear and sat down, poised.
"Did they say it was in here?" Asked a voice. The voice sounded familiar, but I couldn't decide who it was so I shrugged it off.
"Yeah, it's just in the recording lab." Another voice, this one much more calm, responded.
Where did I know these voices? I don't want to ruin my first day on the job, might as well just forget it. Then, in the doorway, stood someone I thought I would never see again. Someone I, honestly, hoped to never even hear of. And as I looked at him, I knew by the look in his eyes that he did not plan this.
It was Andy.
"Andy?" A voice called from the hall. The holder of this voice appeared and he too adopted a stunned expression.
It was Jinxx.
As the rest of the band gathered, I saw in one group the five men I hoped to never see again. What was worse is that they were all together. They all stared at me, and I glared back at them. Was it them after all? It probably wasn't. But it was. And as I looked into Andy's eyes, I saw something that looked almost unnatural. The same bright blue that was in Michael's eyes. "T-Tessa?" Jinxx said. I still remembered his voice, it was the same as it was those years ago. I couldn't speak. Memories flooded in my mind and I began to shake uncontrollably. My mouth dried out and I began to sweat, digging my pinky nail into the palm of my hand like I always did when I was nervous. Nobody spoke--nobody had a clue what to say. All we could do was stare at one another. I became light headed and dizzy, and I found myself back at that night.
-Flashback-
"Andy...you're hurting me..." I choked out. Andy thrusted mercilessly, taking no consent of my comfort. "Stop it! It hurts!" I cried. I felt as his hand came down upon my cheek, leaving a mark and smudging my tears. "Please...Andy I know you're in there somewhere...stop..." I felt as he released something cold and wet into me, making me cry out. He got up, looking down at my bleeding, bruised body. His fist delivering a final few blows, he left me to cry myself to sleep.
-End-
I didn't realize it, but tears had formed on my cheeks. "Tessa...I--" Andy began, but he didn't finish. "I-I-I can't work this case." I said, trying to keep a steady voice. Andy stepped forward, but I quickly skidded away. "Don't touch me!" I cried. Hearing my cry, a man popped his head in. "Woah...is everything okay?" He asked. CC, I think his name was, nodded. "We just need a minute."
A minute?! More like an eternity.
Andy crept forward to me quietly, and I quietly repeated, "Don't you dare touch me!" As he came closer to me, I saw tears forming in his light eyes. "Oh Tessa..." He said, his voice low and shaking. I flinched as he spoke, bringing my arms up to cover my face in case he was going to hit me. "I'm not going to hurt you." He said softly. I peeked out from my arms. "Please, I can't work this case just...just leave me alone!" I said shakily. Suddenly, I felt a soft touch on my cheek. "You don't know how long I've waited to meet you again..." Shaking, my tear-filled eyes moved up to meet his. They were bright again, and although they were clouded by tears I could see their color perfectly. I knew what it was. A small glint of a smile took over his face as I looked at him, but I had to look away. "Why can't you just stay away from me?" I asked, coming to my senses and backing away. He let out a heavy sigh. "Can't you just listen to me? Please, I swear I won't hurt you..." Andy plead. I shook my head. "No, I need to leave." I sniffled, straightening up from my cowering and making my way to the door. "Tessa, wait!" Andy called. I pushed past Ashley, who was standing in the doorway, and made my way to the car. I couldn't be a part of his life again. First thing tomorrow, I was going to see Margo about my contract.
