*Tessa's POV*
Why would I invite him? I replayed the moment in my head. Why, why why?! At that moment, I had just felt so close to him, like I felt when he was still sober. But I knew deep down it was just my heart replayed a record tape of memories, longing for the same summer days we used to share. I was afraid of him, still so very afraid. What if he didn't change at all? What if he was still the same? Perhaps he was angry with me for running away and he was here to drag me back. I shivered at the idea. I knew I'd have to hide my anxiety for Michael; Michael shouldn't be afraid. What I was really afraid of was that Michael would love Andy. He'd ask why Andy didn't come around more often. And Andy would ask where my 'fiance' was and why I didn't have any pictures of him. Lies, lies, lies...He'd find out sooner or later. Why couldn't I just let Andy out of my life like he had proposed to me?
*Andy's POV*
Why did I say yes? I loved her, and I missed her, but it's just not fair to Tessa. She's got a life now, a good one. Away from me, away from fear. So why couldn't I just leave her alone? I had to meet him, my son. Our son. He was the product of my own bad choices, but raised in Tessa's strength. What would he look like? What would he act like? I shamed myself for being to excited. Would I meet her fiance? That would be awkward. 'Hell sir, I'm you wife's ex boyfriend, rapist, and abuser! Now I'm here to further torture her by meeting her son, the product of my rape.' I thought to myself. God dammit. I knew she was afraid of me, afraid to trust me. To trust anyone. That moment with Ronnie on set, that proved it. I saw fear in her eyes. She flinched, afraid of being hit or shouted at or called profanities. It was my fault. My fault that she couldn't even hug someone without having a panic attack. So why did she offer me to meet him?
*Tessa's POV*
I made a tray with some food on it and tidied up the house in preparation. Andy had to believe that I had a great life and was doing well without him. I called Michael down. "Sweetie?" I said in an almost hushed tone. Michael crept down the stairs. "We're having a guest, okay?" Michael nodded. "He's really important to mommy, so you behave, okay?" Michael nodded again. "Thank you." I sighed. He'd be here any minute. I patted Michael on the bum. "Go brush your hair, hun." I said.
*Knock knock*
That was him. I gulped and Immediantly began to shake. How was I supposed to answer? I nervously twisted the handle and pulled. Andy's tall figure stood, a faint smile on his lips. I unconsciously stared right into his bright blue eyes. I'd never seen them so alight. "Hi..." I said, gulping and trying to smile. "Hey," I gestured, welcoming him inside. He stepped in, looking around. "Nice place." He complimented. "Thank you. Michael's just upstairs, come sit." I smiled, my palms sweating.
*Andy's POV*
It was a nice little house, very clean and well trimmed. I stepped into her living room. There were no pictures or anything. Just books, really. A small tray of crackers and chips sat in the counter. "Oh, thank you." I smiled. Tessa's nails were once again imbedded into her palm. She was pale and shaking. "Hey," I said softly, touching her arm. She flinched under my fingertips. "It's okay." Suddenly, we both looked over to the stairs as we heard the loud pattering of feet down the stairs. A small, slender little boy scurried over to us. He had dark brown hair and bright blue eyes that resembled mine completely. He had a pixie-like nose and glowing, pale skin. He looked a lot like Tessa. I felt Tessa watching me as I stared at Michael, who was making his way to the snack plate. He was so...us. He looked just like the two of us. A small gasp escaped my lips. "Michael...this is Andy." Tessa introduced. Michael looked over at me and nodded, fixated on my eyes. "Andy, this is Michael." I held out my hand. "Pleased to meet you." I said. Michael shook my hand, biting into a cracker but not losing eye contact with me. "I like you." Michael said bluntly. I laughed and looked over at Tessa, who's face had turned red. She seemed a little less nervous. Michael examined the studs on my pants. "Cool." He said, poking at them. Tessa smiled. God, I missed that smile. Her real smile. "Do you wanna play a game?" Michael asked me. I looked over at Tessa for guidance. A humorous but worried expression on her face, she shrugged. "Okay." I said, unsure of what else to say. Michael ran into the closet in the hall and we heard shuffling before he finally came out with a box. "This..." He said, plopping the game down. "Is Candyland."
"Thanks again, Tess..a." I said, getting ready to leave. "Oh, it was uhm, no problem." She responded. There was silence before Michael stated, "I have a soccer game on Tuesday." Tessa ruffled his hair, smiling. "Can Andy come to my soccer game mom?" Michael asked. The color drained from Tessa's face, but she tried to remain her composure. "No, sweetie. Andy's busy." Michael hugged my leg. "Pllleeeaaseee?" He whined. I looked at Tessa sympathetically. "Michael..." She warned. Michael resorted to clinging to my leg instead. "I'm not letting go!" He said firmly. "Ok...Andy, it's Tuesday at uhm, 12:30...can you make it?" She asked. I noticed her digging her nails into her palm again. "Where is it?" I asked. This had to stop happening. "Where is it?" I asked. "The Cemil Stadium, up by Hillcrest. You don't have to if you--" Michael bit my leg and said, "He has to come!" I shook my leg and little and winked at her, a smile on my face. "I'll be there."
