--Tessa's POV--

I brushed Michael's dark brown hair, listening to him talk about the baseball game and the rules and how great it was going to be. I couldn't help but bite my lip at the thought of the game today. Would Andy show up? Of course not, he had better things to do. It was probably best he didn't, Michael doesn't need Andy in his life and neither do I. "Get your uniform on, hun. We have to leave in ten." I said, patting Michael on the back and sweeping my hair into a clip. "Kay!" Michael smiled, skipping and hopping into his room. If Andy did show up, at least the other parents would think he had a father. Even if it was a father with tattoos and lion hair. His hair. That's what had changed! Had it really taken me that long to notice that Andy had cut his hair?

"Mama?" Michael peeked into the bathroom, waking me from my zone out. "Time to go." I looked over at him and nodded with a smile. "Okay."

I parked in the driveway next to the big baseball field. Getting out of the car, I opened the back seat door and unbuckled Michael. Suddenly, I felt a light tapping on my shoulder. "Tessa?" Andy's deep voice called. I turned around. Sure enough, there was Andy in his leather pants and cut up shirt. "Oh, Andy...hi..." I said awkwardly, tucking a small strip of hair behind my ear. "Did I make it on time?" He asked. Michael squirmed in his carseat. "Hold on buddy, I'll get you out in a sec." I told Michael. "Yeah." I said, directing my attention back to Andy. "Good." He smiled. "Andy!" Michael said in a cheery voice, wriggling free of his carseat and hopping out of the car to hug Andy's legs. "Hey bud." Andy said, ruffling Michael's hair playfully.

I set up two tac chairs for Andy and I to sit on. Michael had already taken off with his team mates and was playing contently by the coach. "He sure has a lot of energy." Andy smiled. "Yeah..." I responded, shaking a little. Andy looked over at me and gave me a half smile. "Hey," He began. "Relax...I'm not gonna hurt you. I-I know I made a lot of mistakes, but I'm gonna make it up to you." His blue eyes pierced into me. "C-Can we go talk in private?" I asked. He nodded.

Andy and I walked farther out into the field, kicking twigs and pinecones along the way. Neither of us spoke. I wasn't shaking, something about this scene made me feel safe. It wasn't Andy, I was still afraid of him, it was just...everything, I guess. "I'm sorry for everything I've caused." Andy finally said. I looked over at him as we walked. "It was just a really...low point in my life that I wish I could take back, you know?" I nodded. We stopped walking, and I stared at the ground awkwardly. I felt as his thumb gently moved my chin up to look at him. "J-Just don't be afraid of me..." He said. All of a sudden, his face closened to mine and I felt the gentle touch of his lips. The taste of cigarettes and coffee filled me, and the memories of summer days well spent consumed my mind. It all dissapeared. "I-I'm sorry..." Andy said, pulling away. "I should get going." He said. I stood there shaking, wondering why I didn't pull away. He began to walk away. "Andy!" I called after him. He turned around, his blue eyes glimpsing back at me. "What?" I burst into tears, sinking down to my knees. He rushed over. "Tessa?" He said worriedly. "I-I don't have a fiance and I never actually went to college and I-I-I..." Andy cradled me as I shook, not caring if anyone was around to see. "Shhh...." He said. "It's okay...It's okay..." I knew there was more going through his head than he expressed, but I appreciated his lack of words. "C'mon, Tess, let's get you too your feet." He said, hoisting me up. I yelped, flinching and jumping backwards. Where was the hit? Andy moved back. "Hey, hey, it's okay..." He soothed, staying about six feet back. I stood, shaking and fairly afraid. But all I really wanted was to crash into his arms. "Andy I-" I began, but I didn't finish the thought. He slowly crept towards me, and as he got closer he wrapped his arms around me and rested his chin on my head. "It'll be okay." He said softly. I sobbed into his chest. This was not what I was supposed to be doing. This was the man who raped me, abused me, and scarred me for life. But this was the man who loved me, hugged me, and made me myself. I pulled away from the hug, wiping the tears away. "You okay?" He asked. I nodded. "How about coffee at Victor's on Monday?" He asked. And for some reason, I quietly said,

"Yeah...That sounds good."
