The only thought in his head was...
He failed again.
An indignant, still-cursed hybrid threw things angrily at the walls. The room in which he stood could be described as... chaos.
Everything made of wood was shattered, everything made of paper or cloth was torn to pieces, and everything that could and could not be lifted was scattered all around.
Total chaos.
He stood in the midst of the chaos and exhaled angrily. He was boiling with almost endless anger. His siblings tried to calm him down for a while but soon realized that it was in vain...
And whoever was not immortal and entered the door, whether by chance or accident, met an unfortunate fate.
It took hours like this... Until he was met by a very unexpected drowsiness...
Dream...
He shot out of his seat at very speed and stood up. He looked around in confusion. Of course, he had dreams and many more nightmares that visited him from time to time, but this was different. He felt such....
''Peace. You feel at ease,'' an unknown voice replied behind him. He turned at the person at the speed of light. There was a woman and she was right. All his anger left him, he forgot for a moment that his doppelgänger had escaped and he couldn't find her ... that he had failed.
"Who are you?" he could ask after a moment. She just smiled sweetly at him.
"You'll have to find out," she grinned at him. He wanted to describe her, he wanted to record her so he could paint her afterwards but he couldn't. As if she didn't have a form. He tried to see her, but he couldn't, and she seemed to notice. "You won't see my appearance. ''
He frowned at her answer. "Why?" he asked confused, shrugging. He didn't like it when he didn't know something, he didn't like it when someone had control over it, and most of all he didn't like it when people didn't respect him. But her...
"I've been waiting for you for a long time, Niklaus Mikaelson," and she smiled sweetly at him.
"It's not fair that you know me, but I don't."
"Life isn't fair, Nikkie, but you should know that," she said back sweetly.
He rolled his eyes. "Okay, we'll play this game if you want, mon amour."
He may not have seen her in the face, but she was happy with the nickname. It glowed from her. "Maybe one day you'll tell me when we really meet," she sent a gentle smile at him.
"So you are. You exist."
''Yes and no. I am your soulmate. You see my soul, but my physical self doesn't exist yet,'' she explained. "This..." and she pointed around the landscape. "This is all for you to know me and I knew you. To know each other. But not by appearance but by who we are. Inside. What we hide and what we reveal. What we did naturally and what we created.''
"But you already know who I am."
"That's the difference between you and me ...you're here like you. You'll remember it when you wake up but I don't. Your part is to find me, but mine... is to learn to love,'' she smiled at him sincerely, but still her smile hid so much pain.
"What happens if I find you but I don't know it's you? What if I don't know you? What if I think you're someone else? What if- '' he began to stumble over his words.
''Don't think 'What if...?' But when you are so afraid you will know me. But before you find me, you'll meet a lot of women, but you'll just know it's not me,'' the woman tried to explain, "but when you find me...you'll just know. Maybe not right away, maybe not after days, weeks or months. But one day you will realize it. "
He sighed. "You're so sure...I'll find you. Maybe I will fail, as in everything else."
"And maybe not," she giggled and curled up in a dress among the flowers. "Even though you think you failed... isn't everything as it seems. You have to fall to see the world from a different angle," she quoted, then returned to look back at the sky.
Only now did he realize the surroundings around him. It was beautiful... everywhere was full of colors but not much, just right. The time was different here, he noticed that. There was a day when he appeared, but now it was a bright night with a sky full of stars.
"You're not crazy," she smiled at him. "Day and night and the weather is changing here as I wish," she shrugged, sat on the ground covered with flowers. So many flowers in one place... Any part of him could not name or determine the colors.
When the woman noticed that the man was not following her, she turned to him and tapped on place next to her. He understood her gesture and sat down carefully beside her. But as soon as he landed, she rested her head on his shoulder. The man tensed for a moment, before relaxed and put his arm around her.
Together they looked at the stars... stars that shone and were beautiful.
"They're beautiful, aren't they?"
''Yes, they are.''
But the man didn't look at the stars at all, they were beautiful, but next to him sat a beauty who really blinded him. She blinded him without seeing her properly.
The man saw her again...every time it was unexpected...but every time he returned to her, they ended up looking at the stars together.
Maybe someday they'll have a chance, a chance to sit together like this in peace, in the real world, and the man will see her and his heart will be mended and his soul completed... maybe not just his.
But they will only know that if they live and they will believe. Even though they did not know what fate had prepared for them.
But they can, they can do it together, like they used to ... From now, forever.
