Thana's POV
Ash.
I smell ashes and burns.
Not only do I feel it with every breath I take in this burnt house, but I see it everywhere. But what was I supposed to expect when it exploded here?
Of course, Kol and I were curious as to what happened since we had no hand in it...this time. Although we caused trouble in the morning before breakfast, this was new to us.
''Sometimes people are so stupid I can't understand,'' Kai commented, raising his head to smile at us. "Accidentally disconnecting the gas line," he smirked, showing us a pipe that had been disconnected from the wall.
I didn't comment, but I couldn't say the same about Kol since he was already talking to Kai. I rolled my eyes at them. I didn't understand why he came with us, I can handle it myself, thank you.
I looked at all the burnt furniture, broken dishes and ashes. I honestly don't know how Kol can breathe in here and upon entering he coughed at the amount of vervain in the air. Maybe he's not breathing at all?
Of course we couldn't touch anything while searching, so we used magic, my magic. Both men were initially opposed to the idea of me harming myself, but then changed their minds after I definitively did not threaten them.
I looked around the small kitchen that was here. I carefully opened the cabinets that looked like they would fall apart at any moment. When I bent down to look at the contents of the cupboards, something caught my eye in the oven. Was it paper?
I looked closer. The only thing that was here without damage. I opened the oven door and carefully lifted a piece of paper into the air. It wasn't just paper. It was a letter.
April
I haven't seen that little girl in a long time. I smiled at the memory of when I was in charge of her. Most likely she will be at the funeral. Perhaps even Death will have to attend the funeral in the church. I smirked at the irony.
With the ease of magic, I carefully opened the letter, which caught the attention of the boys. They came up to me and each stood next to me on a different side to get a better view of the letter we all started reading.
It was a farewell letter.
But...
...What I did was a necessary sacrifice... itš first of many more sacrifices to come... an evil... through Mystic Falls... greater one is coming... first in the war ahead... we all find our salvation...
We looked at each other at the same time and knew we wouldn't have a moment of peace. I saw how Kol wanted to argue, but he froze when he said. "Someone is coming here."
I quickly made a copy of the letter and returned it to the oven before closing it and pocketing the original. Unfortunately, our original plan wouldn't work with killing the person who was supposed to come, as we don't want to spend hours listening to Elijah's lecture. And we don't know who it is either, I think it would be too suspicious. It was impossible to compel that person at this moment, because vervain had been poured into the water supply.
So the only thing left for us to do was hide.
Before the door opened, Kol picked us up and moved us to the back of the room with vampire speed, cramming the three of us into a small room. Pleasant. "Really?" I raised an eyebrow at Kol who was standing in front of me, his hands resting on the wall behind me that Kai was leaning against. I saw how they both got hurt. "Idiots."
