Fawn's POV
"Alright, dear, now you steady your aim...make sure to keep very still, and very quiet..."
Alastor's voice right by my ear sounded like a ghost. He was speaking so softly, his hands situated over mine. My body was snug against his chest as he showed me how to hold the gun.
I was trying to focus on what he was saying, and not the hardness of his chest against my back.
He insisted that he show me how to shoot, explaining that it only makes sense I should know how to protect myself without him around.
I had made fun of him, telling him no one would find his house because he lives in the middle of the damn forest.
In the end, I obliged with his wishes. So, that brings us back to now...his sleek rifle situated in my hands.
The warmth of his hands overtop mine was hard to ignore, and I was shaking just slightly. I never did like guns, nor do I like the idea of killing any living thing.
Including this poor bunny he has me zeroed in on...
His lips were right by my ear, trying to coax me into a bit more of a relaxed state.
"You're not going to be able to pull the trigger shaking like that..." he whispered, "relax...this is going to be our dinner for tonight," he told me again, like he's said several times before in hopes that it would make me more keen on the whole killing thing.
I said nothing, simply took in a deep breath, letting it out shakily as I closed one eye and focused on the small woodland creature.
His hands enveloped mine, helping me hold this (admittedly very heavy) gun.
My lips formed a thin line and my brows furrowed as I watched the bunny's nose twitch while it sniffed around for fallen berries... completely unaware of the impending doom looming over its fluffy little head.
"We need a clean shot, you only get one chance..." he said softly, "ready...and—"
"Wait!" I blurted, making him jump slightly and the bunny startle. It hopped away, and I took a couple of deep breaths as Alastor released me and stepped back.
"Fawn..." he started with a sigh, sounding just a tad bit frustrated. I clutched the gun in my hands and turned to face him.
Upon seeing the distressed look on my face, the pinch in his brow lessened and his irritated smile softened.
"I-I'm sorry, I—"
Gently, he took the gun from me. He applied the safety and put the strap around his body, resting it against his back.
"It's alright. I shouldn't have forced you to do this, it's obvious you aren't too fond of the idea," he said, and then sighed, "but I hope you remember everything I showed you today...we don't know how long it's going to take for you to return home, so you should at least know how to protect yourself if need be."
Upon the mention of me returning home, I glanced to the side.
I haven't made any progress on that...I don't have any ideas, and most of all, I don't even know if it's possible...
