Chapter ??? - Moving Forward.
Day 366
Now, I don't know why I'd go with these guys, as I'm clearly dangerous to those around me. But... I can change, right? Besides, these guys do look like they can handle a kid with an axe, even if I have had a year of practice with it.
So I took them back to my camp, and we spoke. Well, Derren the auburn archer and I did. Chris or 'Jura' sat back away from the glowing light of the fire and sharpened his sword. He seemed pretty fond of his happy-go-lucky companion and didn't look like he'd stand me killing him. Well, Chris, I'll try not to.
Anyway, Derren told me about how they were in a group since level two, and got to level four, and not any of them had a key. So Derren and Chris, using 'Help's help, came back to each level looking for the key. He told me how the oldest of them and the 'leader', Elliot, only had four months left before he became part of the game. Chris grumbled something about Elliot, and I'd raised an eyebrow at him, but he didn't continue.
So after all that chatting; finding out those two were from California; are sixteen and seventeen; Derren being the oldest one; that it was Derren who'd received the copy of Discord, amongst other crap I didn't need to know about them, I went to sleep as they whispered about me. Chris obviously had his doubts, but Derren saw the good in me, and persuaded him to let me stay.
For that I'm thankful.
In the morning I was awoken by arguments.
"Jeez, you're such a grumpy guts, get up, will you?" Said a muffled voice, obviously full of food.
A long groan. "I hate it here."
"I know you do, and I know you don't like the new addition, but you learned to accept Evan, and he doesn't even talk."
"That's cause he proved himself." Groan. "Stop kicking me."
"Well, let him prove himself. Plus, he's adorable. Look at his face."
"Ooh yes, very cute. Now stop kicking me."
"He is, though. That axe is like half his height. He's so short. And he's all skin and bone, we've got to save him from this place."
"You know, I hate you sometimes."
"No you don't, you love me." His voice was muffled again.
"Shut up, man."
I sat up and looked at them, rubbing my eyes and tying up my hair. I couldn't help but chuckle at the way Chris was sprawled across the floor, with Derren standing over him and munching on an orange while he kicks him. Furrowing my brow I looked at him.
"How'd you get that?" I asked him. Widening his sparkling reddish brown eyes he looked at me, holding up the orange.
"What, this?" He asked, to which I nodded. "Oh, I stole it."
"What..?"
"Yeah, you can steal from these market salesmen. I feel bad about it, but then, they're not gunna eat it, are they?" He said, taking another segment and munching on it.
I nodded and got up, sorting my stuff out. "Ah."
As he watched me, a small smile formed on the happy face of Derren. "Aren't you gunna eat?"
"No, I don't tend to eat breakfast." I said, sitting cross legged on a log with my axe laid across my knees. He tilted his head.
"But breakfast is the most important meal of the day! How're you gunna survive without fueling up?" He said, handing me a section of orange. I never really used to like oranges, but I took the segment and bit into it, savouring the juicy sweet flavour. I have never loved the taste of fruit so much in my life. It was glorious.
