Chapter ??? - Kane.

Chris' face was set in stone. "You know this guy?!" I snarled, gripping the guy's wrist tighter and attempting to get it away from my throat. "Let go of me, freak."

I looked at the black haired guy. A hood covered most of his head, and through his shaggy, long strands of hair dark grey eyes seemed to glitter. His mouth was hidden behind a grey scarf, but the crinkle of his eyes and the rising of his hollowed cheeks told me he was grinning.

"What's the meaning of this? We haven't done anything to you." Chris spat. "Let Kieran go."

A girl with sharp features stood beside Kane, a black hood shading some of her face from view. "'Kieran', huh? This 'Kieran' is the reason we're all here." She said with an equal amount of spitefulness.

I frowned. "I keep telling you guys, it wasn't me. It was just someone who looks like me." The coolness of my voice surprised me.

The girl sauntered up to me, getting way too close for comfort. "Who was it then, your evil twin? An imposter?" An amused smirk formed on her face as I was unable to answer. "No excuses? How pitiful."

I let go of the hand holding my hair and glared at her as she hauled my bag off my shoulders.

"He clearly has no idea what's going on. About as much idea as we all do, so just let him go. He's innocent." Chris sounded calm and collected, although his knuckles were white with the grip on Derren's arm. His sword threatened anyone who dared to come near them.

"Innocent?!" Someone else spat. "He dragged us into that portal one by one, knowing full well what lies on the other side! He's a heartless monster from this hell hole, and we need to get rid of him."

"Yeah!"

I suddenly found myself more frightened and alone than ever.

Why?

Why do people hate me?

It wasn't my fault... It wasn't me...

Why does everyone think it's me?

I'm innocent! I didn't do anything!!

None of my thoughts would voice themselves and I simply bit my trembling lip. The girl rummaged through my bag.

"A*sholes." Was the only thing I could conjure up.

"We're not animals!! He's clearly innocent!!" Chris said. He certainly wants that key, huh?

Doesn't he realise if I die here he can just take it?

"My friend died because of him!" Someone piped up.

They really want to kill me, huh?

The girl pulled out some things, tossing them on the floor carelessly. I felt uneasy. At least I still have my dagger and axe.

"We've all lost people, okay? But do those people really want us to kill someone for it?" Chris answered.

"Well you clearly haven't lost your person. Still protecting that weakling, huh? He's gunna get you killed."

"Shut the f*ck up." He responded, glancing at Derren. The auburn archer was looking around quickly. He seemed to be trying to find a way out.

The girl headed back over to the 'Kane' guy and whispered something to him. That something made him grin more, and he held up a hand. Everyone fell into silence.

The silence lasted. Deathly silence. It hung around like a stench, and suspicious eyes flickered over untrustworthy faces.

"I'm going to let you two go. If you make it to level seven, I'll meet you there." Kane spoke, his voice deep and muffled by the scarf. He had an accent of some kind, although what it was I'm not sure. "And I'll kill you."
