Chapter ??? - The Real Level Two.
Day 4?
I was deposited on the other side of a wooden door, identical to the one in level one. I looked back at it.
Hm, no decision?
It was strange, though.
I have this feeling, like, I don’t know, like I recognise something from somewhere, but I don’t know what. It keeps tugging on my mind. Ugh.
I shook my head and looked over to the town before me. It looked the same as in the game, aside from the non-plastic texture. The houses looked like houses from the tudor times. But… Not quite. They looked like they were also from a town in a game called Dishonoured. They had beams on the bottom, tudor-like windows, but sturdy tiled roofs. The top half of the buildings looked like they had been sheets of metal nailed together, then painted an intoxicating cream shade. The light reflecting off the buildings almost blinded me.
In the distance, I saw a clock tower. I recognised it as looking almost identical to Big Ben in London, although I’ve only been to London twice. It’s old looking, made of bricks, with an illuminated clock face at the top, near the brown roof. The difference, however, was that sheets of metal had been fixed to certain areas. As if it had been broken and fixed many times.
I stared in awe. What on earth?
The sun barely peeked over the tall mountains completely surrounding the clock town, drenching the entire left side of the town in shadow.
The sun rises in the East, and sets in the West.
So in front of me is North. Okay. I can handle that.
What I can’t handle is it’s probably mid-afternoon to evening. Nightfall isn’t too far away, and I dread to think what the monsters emerging at night look in real life. How do I kill them?
Kill them.
I can’t kill them! I can’t kill things… The only things I’ve ever killed are flies and spiders. Maybe a few ants.
I suddenly felt the sensation of things crawling all over me. Ugh! I shuddered.
Jordie, Sadie, Sofia… Why did you leave me?!
I can’t do this… Not by myself…
I’ll be dead before dawn.
No, I can hide away. Find a way into a villager’s hut every night.
Progressing isn’t the priority here. Surviving is.
I don’t need to go further. Not yet. Just survive. Just live.
Taking a deep breath, I tightened my hoodie sleeves, and started along the cobble road towards the town.
As I looked left and right, I noticed a lot of tree stumps. Were there forests here? And who cut them down?
I suppose the main focus was on the town, since if there were a forest here I wouldn’t have gone to the other forest. The real forest. For f*ck’s sake.
How much wood is needed, though? The houses are already built.
Who am I to question the motives of a CPU. They’re programmed to do the same thing, over and over. I wonder what’ll happen to the person chopping down all the trees when the trees run out.
