Chapter ??? - Almost There.
After receiving detention for about a month, and being grounded for about two, I sat in my room, feeling sorry for myself.
I took the pillows and moved them, sitting in the corner of the room on my bed. I tucked my knees under my chin and sighed, piling my pillows around me like a protective barrier. The gameboy stayed in the top drawer of the desk. Despite the urge to play it, I don’t want to, and that want overwhelms me. I haven’t touched my computer, or any technology for that matter.
Tsk.
I whimpered, grabbing a pillow and hugging it to my chest. It sounded like something hit my window. But fearing it was that… thing again, I didn’t look.
Tsk.
What is that? Go away.
Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.
Stop it. Stop throwing things at my window!
Tsk.
“Go away!” I said aloud, burying my face in the pillow. “I can’t go to the forest, I’m grounded! And all because of that stupid game!”
Buzzzzz. Buzzzzz. Buzzzzz.
I looked up and saw my phone buzzing on my bed, screen lit up.
Someone’s ringing me.
I reached over and picked it up, looking at the caller ID. Jordie?
I pressed the green button and held my phone to my ear, “Hello?”
“Dude, we’re outside your window. Why didn’t you look out? I’ve been throwing stones for ages.” He said. Someone scoffed in the background.
I widened my eyes, they were outside? So we’re going to the forest anyway, despite them not being able to come over. I dropped my pillow and pushed the barrier of pillows down, shuffling over to my window. I slid it open and looked down, seeing Jordie, Sadie and Sofia standing in my garden and waving.
The chilled air instantly filled my room and made me shiver.
Sadie snuggled into a jacket that looked like it belonged to Jordie, while Sofia looked around, shivering.
“Why are you here?” I asked quietly into the phone, my voice quivered slightly, and I spotted Jordie’s face sadden. Sofia pointed to the woods, shivering a little. The girls wore their school uniforms, whereas Jordie wore a black t-shirt and blue jeans.
“Forest?” Jordie said, his voice seeming to echo as I heard it through the phone and outside. He took in a sharp breath, and I bit my lip.
I glanced at the pure black spotless sky, gulping down the sick feeling, then to the thick pine trees of the forest. I nodded down to them, before hanging up and slipping my phone in my trouser pocket. The nights are still strangely cold, it’s nearing the end of May. My birthday is in two days. I grabbed a black hoodie and pulled it over my head. Remembering my gameboy, I slid off the bed and grabbed it, putting it in my pocket as well.
I glanced out and gave them the sign to wait a sec, before I closed my window and quietly crept over to my door. My hand connected with the cool metal handle as I heard Mama creak up the stairs below me. I froze, listening as hard as I could despite my shaky breathing. The smooth click of her door closing told me she was in bed, so I winced my door open and stuck my head out, looking around. I slipped out and closed it behind me with a quiet click, then I crept downstairs, picking up my black trainers as I passed them.
