Chapter ??? - Silence.

It’s been three days since I last played that game. I really haven’t felt like playing anything after that music box thing. Why even put that in there? What was the point?

I lay in bed, sighing and turning over onto my side. The thin curtains draping over my large window still let in the dim light from outside, the source being the streetlight below on the pavement across the road. I faced away from the cold wall, and rested my head on my bent arm, bringing my covers right up to my ear.

I glanced at the glinting red object on my light wooden desk, which was battered and bruised by outbursts of anger. I’ve been slowly getting more anxious and curious as the days have drawled on. From maybe the smallest things. A stranger on the single bus that passes through here.

Maybe they look at me the wrong way.

For the rest of the day I look behind me, out of the old fashioned windows with the peeling white paint, around the crumbling red brick corners of my school. My hand would start twitching and it would only be when Sadie does that soothing thing she does that I’d stop worrying.

I sighed and sat up, letting the top of my duvet slide down my shoulder. Yawning, I rubbed my eyes and stared at the game. Should I? Hm.

After a few minutes of consideration, I shuffled across my bed and put my feet on the floor, standing up and looking for my phone. I found it, and picked up the cool white metal, clicking the home button and blinking tiredly as the screen lit up.

 2:46 am.

I groaned quietly, turning my screen slightly so the light wasn’t glaring directly at me, and entered my passcode.

 2305.

 21st May.

The phone made an unlocking noise and I clicked on messages, blinking again when my dark-ish home screen was replaced with blinding white. I clicked on Jordie’s name.

 He should be awake now.

 Me: Dude, I gotta problem.

 His reply was almost instant.

Jordie: Sup? Be quick, I’m waiting for my match to start.

Me: Haha, yeah yeah. Whatever, dude.

 Jordie: You had a problem?

 Me: Yeah, I got this

I was in the middle of typing when my phone buzzed again.

 Jordie: Match. Slow reply.

I rolled my eyes and continued typing.

Me: Yeah, I got this parcel in the mail, right? Guess what was in it. A freaking gameboy, with an unseen game. Problem is, first level? Bull. It was pretty f-cked up, man. Ugh, I can’t sleep...OR GAME.

Pressing send, I unplugged the phone and moved back onto my bed, wrapping my covers around me and nestling into them. After looking away from my bright phone, the room seemed a lot more gloomy, so I switched it back on again and waited on messages for my friend to reply, rather than waiting for my eyes to re-adjust to the ominous darkness.

Eventually, his green text bubble popped up again.

Jordie: No way, man. That’s sick!! But, what happened!? You can’t game?! WHY NOT?!!
