Chapter ??? - Waking.

22nd May.

I was awoken by the sound of… sobs. Girl sobs. My head throbbed painfully and I wiggled my fingers and twitched. This position is uncomfortable. I can feel dirt beneath my fingers, and warmth on my face, light is turning my eyelids red. It’s sunny.

Am I dead?

In my dazed state, I’d forgotten what happened. And like a slap in the face it all came rushing back.

Game. Stars. Forest. Imposter. Running. Explosion. Portal. Falling. Drifting.

I gasped, breathing in the warm hazy air as my eyes snapped open, staring at the underneath of a tree, the light was beautifully dappled through its jade leaves. This looks familiar.

I unfurled myself from my uncomfortable sprawl and sat up, rubbing my head and shaking pine needles from my tangled hair. Glancing at Sadie, I saw she wasn’t the one crying, although she was extremely pale, and gnawing on her lip. Her eyes looked like they’d burst as she rocked back and forth slightly.

I then turned to Sofia, who was sobbing her eyeliner ringed eyes out, smacking the dusty dirt floor. The dirt was awfully light. Lighter than- Oh. Ohh.

Looking around intently, I realised this isn’t the clearing in the pine forest. These aren’t even pine trees. These are some kind of oak or something else trees. The rock wasn’t even here.

“Where are we?” I asked, my voice was a little hoarse, looking between the two girls. I couldn’t see Jordie. Where is he?

“Who knows. We could be dead. We could be anywhere.” Sadie said wistfully. She stopped rocking and crossed her legs, staring at a broken branch on the floor and staying still, unblinking.

“Who CARES where we are?!” Sofia wailed, her voice muffled against the ground. “CoD is GOOOONE!!”

“Well you guys are a great help… Have you tried calling anyone?” I asked, trying to keep my rising panic under control. Where are we? Why are we here?

Portal.

Forest.

Irrational fears are springing to mind, with more irrational and unneeded thoughts.

“Phones won’t work.” Sadie said, dropping her sleek black phone on the ground beside her. I reached into my pocket and pulled out my own phone, brushing some sort of dust off it and clicking the home button.

The first thing I saw was no signal.

The second was the date and time.

22/05/??

08:45

08:46

08:47

Why are the minutes moving so fast?

Suddenly, the screen went white, and my phone spluttered and died.

“Perfect.” I said, scowling at the useless object. I put it back in my pocket, instead of throwing it away, as I gulped down my panic.

What are we going to do?!
