Chapter ??? - Brute.
"So what's your name? I'm Elliot, by the way." Said the tall guy as he let go of my wrist and settled into a crouch against the cold wall.
"I'm Kieran." I said, flopping down and rummaging through my bag. "I'm lucky you guys found me. I was with two of your friends before. Derren and Chris?"
"Oh, they're alive." The girl said, somewhat surprised.
Elliot chuckled. "I suppose they told you about us, then."
I nodded, grabbing a bread roll from my bag and beginning to tear it to pieces. The shorter boy licked his lips. "Yeah. You're Elliot, the french girl is Karcsi and that's Evan."
Karcsi rolled her eyes. "Why did they bring you?"
Elliot chuckled. "Sorry about her, English is her second language."
"I can speak for myself, thank you." She responded as she fiddled with a hair band on her wrist.
"It's fine. I've had worse." I said, digging into my pocket and grasping the key. I took it out and showed it to them. "This is why. Chris definitely wouldn't have let me come otherwise."
"Oh, you've got the key." Elliot said, smiling. "Nice, buddy. Where did you find it?"
"First level." I said, shoving the key back in my pocket and stuffing breadcrumbs into my mouth. Evan stared at the bread hungrily, and so I tore a bit off and offered it to him. As soon as I did so he turned it down. "Come on, you look hungry."
His hunger bar was in the low orange, whereas the others were yellow.
"He gets hungry really quickly." Elliot explained, nodding to Evan. The boy gingerly took the bread from my hand and nibbled on it.
"Where're you from?" Karcsi asked, frowning a little at me.
"UK." I said through a mouthful of crusty, stale bread. She nodded, although she looked slightly confused.
"Anyway," Elliot said with a grin. "We'd better find those two."
I nodded, standing up. As we walked, I noticed the corridor was swaying very gently. Like a boat.
Elliot walked in front, with Karcsi and I behind. Evan walked behind us.
Karcsi tucked a strand of dark hair behind her ear. Somehow, her hair didn't seem greasy at all, it looked soft and well kept. She fiddled with a large, thin phone in a panda case, her long fingers and uneven fingernails digging beneath the rubber to pull it off, then pushing it back on the clearly damaged device. Her fingernails had chipped red polish on, and her ring finger's fingernails were coloured with black marker.
She glanced down at me with grey, misty eyes. They reminded me of the fog from the last level, with mixtures of dark and light grey moulding together. Pretty.
"How old are you?" She asked, not looking directly at my eyes, just at the drawstrings of my hoodie.
"Sixteen. I'm not a kid." I said, glancing at the metal strip on the wall. My own tired blue eyes stared back.
She laughed a little, a slightly whimsical laugh, one that sounded almost forced. "I didn't say you were a kid."
"I know." I said, sticking my hands in my pockets. "The others just keep calling me one. Especially Chris."
She nodded slowly. I noticed patches of red fabric sewn on her jeans. They didn't look too bad. Her striped shirt stopped just below her belly button, and her breasts seemed to press against the fabric. A top too small for her. I bit my lip.
