Chapter 33

Two years later (2017)

"Please, Steve? Pretty please?" Hayley gave her best puppy eyes.

"You're our one and only hope" Ayla pleaded.

"No can do" Steve continued to walk.

"Come on, we told that our dad would come and you're the only one we could think of" Ayla said.

"That ain't my problem" Steve snapped as he made his way to his truck.

"Then what are we supposed to tell our teachers? Our friends?" Hayley asked.

"You need to worry about that. Not me" Steve clicked his truck alarm.

"Pretty please? We'll do anything" Ayla said and Steve stopped into his tracks.

"Anything?"

"Anything"

Steve seemed to give it a thought. "No can do" Steve said as he reached his truck.

Ayla ran and jumped in front of Steve, blocking his way from opening his truck's door. Her hands spread open on both sides. 

"Steve, please! We're orphans. We have no parents. We don't have any other people. You're our one and only hope" Ayla said, stern but pleading. Her eyes giving the best assuring look.

"Yeah, please, Steve. We don't want to be let down in front of our friends. You're the only person we could think of. Please?" Hayley comforted.

Steve sighed. All he wanted to do today was to chill and have some beer like he does every other night but who knew these two girls would ask him to act as their dad during their school report card day. 

Steve looked into the empty parking lot. There weren't many people around since it was close to midnight. He didn't want to go and embarrass himself at a school full of nerdy nimrods, at the same time, he didn't have the heart to say no to the girls in front of him. They were pleading the hell out. 

Steve let out on heavy sigh before turning towards them. 

"Alright, I'll do it" Steve said and with that, Steve was attacked at both sides with bear hugs from Ayla and Hayley. He was lucky he doesn't skip leg day workouts or else he would have definitely lost his balance at the sudden hugs. He wrapped his arm around both the girls, giving them a tap on the shoulders.

"Thank you Steve" Hayley said.

"Thank you so much" Ayla said.

Steve smiled behind their heads before he plastered with his rocky face after they released their hugs, trying to maintain macho. 

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. But you two candy asses owe me big time" Steve said as he opened the truck door.

"Sure thing, Steve. See you in 3 days at school" Ayla waved as Steve wiggled his fingers and sped off the road.

Ayla and Hayley high-fived.

"Come on, our shift is up. Let's go home" Ayla said, slowly taking off her apron. 

Hayley nodded, taking hers off as well. The two walked down the road. Luckily their house was just a 10 minutes walk. 

As they were walking, Ayla remembered how she and Hayley struggled to find someone to act as their dads. 

Firstly, they thought of Taker since he was the nearest. He said that the entire school staffs knows him, especially Mrs Norris. She knows that Ayla and Hayley aren't his children. So that would be risky in exposing their past. So Taker was a no.

Then, they asked Shawn and Shawn said he wasn't available this week since they were going to Rebecca's hometown in Arizona, so Shawn was out of the list.
