"So, Stephanie." Oh yes, Linda calls her by her full name. Not Steph like the others do. "Tell me about our little... guest here" Linda said, her eyes sharply looking at Ayla as though Ayla had committed a crime.
Ayla gulped when she was being the center of attention.
"Right, uh" Stephanie set her fork and knife on the plate and looked at her parents. "Mom, dad. Ayla lives here with Hunter and I" Stephanie begin.
"What?" Vince looked at Stephanie to see if she was serious.
"Hunter and I brought Ayla to live with us here" Stephanie repeated.
"Why?" Vince asked. "You don't even know this kid"
"Daddy"
"I've never even heard of her. You brought her from somewhere on the streets and asked her to live here with you? What's wrong with you, Steph?" Vince raised his voice.
"Daddy, please"
"Plus, I don't like her" Vince said directly.
Ayla gulped and looked down, trying her best not to take it to heart. She was fighting the urge to talk back.
"Daddy!" Stephanie called out for the hundredth time. She looked at Ayla and her heart sank when she saw how hard Ayla was trying to control her emotions.
"This is a house for millionaires, not an orphanage" Vince said and that really was it. Ayla looked down, her fist clenched into a ball, ready to lay it on Vince's sorry face.
"Calm down, Vince" Linda held Vince's hand on the table, looking at the poor girl who was looking at both of them with a fire in her eyes.
"Is there something you want to say, kid?" Linda asked, looking at Ayla.
"Yes" Ayla raised her chin up, a sense of arrogance in her face.
Stephanie gulped, thinking what Ayla was gonna say. Hunter looked at her, waiting for it.
"Ayla" Stephanie whispered.
"No, Stephanie. Don't hold her back" Linda held Stephanie's hands and then turned back to look at Ayla. "Go ahead" Linda said.
"First of all, it was nice to meet you both, Mr. and Mrs. McMahon" Ayla said.
"Second of all, Mr. McMahon, it's not for me to tell, but you shouldn't really judge someone's character without even saying a word to them before, let alone without shaking their hand" Ayla said. She knew she was gonna be in trouble after this, but she needs to say what she wants to say and no one is gonna stop her from doing so. She dared not to look at Hunter and Stephanie, afraid she might not be able to say what she wants if she does so.
"Third of all, I'm not from the streets or an orphan. You are only an orphan if you believe you are. I have friends who would do anything for me, and I mean ANYTHING for me. As long as they are by my side, I have nothing to be afraid of. They are my family. I will never be alone" Ayla raised her chin as she spoke.
"How dare you-" Vince was cut off by Linda.
"That's enough, Vince." Linda said.
"But-"
"She is right" Linda said. "And, I like her" a wide smile crept on her face.
Stephanie and Hunter sighed in relief. It was a miracle that Linda actually likes somebody. They were worried about how Linda is gonna accept Ayla, more than about Vince. They looked at each other with wide grins on their faces.
"What?" Vince's eyes widen.
"Really. She knows how to dress well, she's well mannered, and when provoked, she knows how to handle her emotions. She also knows when and where to voice out without needing to be seemed as a baffling baboon. She waits for her turn to shine and when she does, she keeps her chin up all the time." Linda explained. "She's got class"
