Corpse bride is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I'm in a Horror sans mood so like, yeah

Your soon-to-be husband slipped the golden, bejeweled, and expensive ring, albeit roughly, onto your finger.

"With this ring, I ask you to be mine."

He took a step back, both of you extremely glad the rehearsal was finally over.

Not a single word out of his mouth during the vows was true, you knew he couldn't care less about you.

You didn't know how to love him.

You'd spent days and nights convincing yourself that this was for the best, your parents wouldn't do this to you unless it was necessary, and in this dire moment, it was.

Times were hard, money was tight, and your engagement may be the only thing that would help them now.

"James? You did amazing today," you lied, but getting on his good side may be the only option you had.

He simply glared at you and walked away.

You looked down at the golden band on you finger. How could something so beautiful make you feel so unwanted.

The thirty minutes you'd been in his company felt like hours, he despised you and you knew it.

He said it himself.

'Who would want to marry someone like that. This marriage won't last the year. Maybe not even the month.'

How can someone be so heartless.

He wasn't the only one disinterested in this partnership.

You'd never marry someone like him, on his high horse, just because his parents were wealthy he thought that made him better than you.

You were sure even his parents took pity on you.

...

You heard a sound of metal hitting the ground.

His ring, he dropped it, left it lying on the floor as he walked away.

Despite your hatred of the jewelry, you picked it up before you left to change out of your ceremonial clothes, which you'd burn if they didn't cost a fortune.

You slipped out of the church unnoticed, happy to be free of the of your future husband and inlaws.

You found yourself wandering through the woods you grew up exploring. You were so carefree back then, what you wouldn't give to go back to that time now.

The venture ended up on an overgrown path behind the chapel, the glow of the moon lighting your way. No one would go out there looking for you, unless you knew the area, you'd get lost for sure.

You knew every turn, every hole, large rock, fallen tree. You swore that in your younger days, you'd  spent more time within these trees than at your own house.

The only thing you could focus on was tomorrow.

You always wanted to be married, but not like this.

Never like this.

You sighed as you kicked a briar off of your leg, replaying the vows in your mind.

You continued until you came across an ancient looking oak tree, probably near two hundred years old, and sat down at the base.

You and a friend from your childhood would play hide and seek nearly everyday in this clearing.

...you really needed him right now.
