"Y/n, I choose you."

The thrown pokeball opened, releasing the small Pokemon, ready to fight.

Now it wasn't really an actual battle, it was practice for the small ground type, she was a bit more of a companion than a fighter but she enjoyed practicing along side Sans, her best friend and trainer.

"Y/n, use bonemerang."

She did as told and the opposing Pokemon, an already weakened Fennekin, fainted in seconds.

She ran over to her trainer, seeing how proud he looked.

He picked her up and held her like you would a cat or other small animal.

"Good job, you're getting better and better everyday."

Sans carried her home and set her on the couch with his brother's Marowak and some of her teammates, a Gengar and Duskull.

And of them all, she was the smallest...and weakest. She got along great with them, they loved her, everyone did, but she felt like she could do more.

She wished she had the strength and fighting ability to evolve, she always looked up to the Marowak, she just wished she could could be as strong as him.

Sure, Sans tried to help her with battles, make her stronger, help a little but he knew the enemies she was against now wouldn't help much.

He was scared to have her fight anything much bigger than an Eevee.

The two of them had been inseparable since the day he found her. She was lost and scared, crying to the moon, as Cubones were known to do.

He just felt so bad for her, being alone out there and he immediately decided to take her home, not that Papyrus minded, he thought she was adorable.

Cubones are known to be very loyal and affectionate towards their trainers, so she was more than happy to be taken in by the skeletons.

Not to mention that Sans' Gengar and Duskull treated her as a little sister. Which she was grateful for, she just wished they wouldn't treat her like she constantly needed to be protected.

She wanted to be part of the battle, but she was more of a backup and since the other two were rather strong she never got a chance.

"Hey Y/n, you wanna go get something to eat."

She perked up immediately.

"Cu!"

Sans knew that meant yes, he knew her emotions by the sound of her calls, besides he already knew her answer, she went everywhere with him.

He scooped her up and left for a nearby park that had a selection of different small restaurants surrounding it, which is where they often went for practice battles since there were often other trainers around.

Despite having food of her own she kept sneaking fries while he talked to the restaurant owner, a tall fire monster who often slipped her small treats when Sans wasn't looking.

"Alright, Y/n let's get you home so you can get some rest."

He set her on the ground from the stool she was on and began their walk home.

He would've carried her but she didn't mind walking and he didn't teleport with her since the last few times he did it made her incredibly dizzy.

"Hey, you bonehead! I challenge you to a battle."

The two of them turned around to see a, rather bratty looking, trainer tossing his pokeball around like it was a toy.

"Seriously. You have got to be kidding me, come on Y/n."

Sans decided to try to avoid the fight, mainly because he didn't know the strength or type of the other Pokemon.

"What scared, I would be too if I had a pathetic little Cubone like you."

"Don't you dare talk about her like that."

She ran in front of him, saying she was ready to fight, not for herself but Sans, cause she knew anyone who insulted her was gonna get it from him.

"Y/n no, we don't know what he has."

"Cubone!"

For once he couldn't tell what she was trying to say, but he knew she was annoyed.

"Ha, does she really think she could defeat us in a fight, that's just ridiculous."

"Why do you even want to fight us then?"

"Easy win."

"Stupid brat."

She didn't even care about him making fun of her, she was more mad he was annoying her trainer.

"Vaporeon, I choose you."

"Ok, no, seriously Y/n come on."

A stronger water type was definitely trouble to the both of them.

Sans was trying to resolve all of it and just turning and leaving but of course the other trainer wasn't having that.

"Vaporeon, use Hydro Pump."

The small Cubone was hit from behind, despite Sans' attempt to block the attack.

*Y/n fainted*

"What the hell is wrong with you, leave us alone!"

Sans yelled at the guy after using a pokeball to hold her until he could get to the nearest Pokecenter.

Sure, his arguing didn't faze the guy but he was getting suspicious and angered glares from bystanders so at least people were on their side.

Sans left the guy under the accusing stares of the others and quickly teleported to the nearest Pokecenter he could think of.

He knew she'd be fine as soon as she healed for a little bit, he was more worried about what it would do for her morale, she'd never been in a fight so bad she fainted.

He knew she wouldn't give up till she evolved, he was worried it would take longer, in the case she was slightly scared of taking on any opponent the slightest bit stronger than her.

He waited for her to heal, pacing around while he did. He was so used to having her at his side he didn't know what to do without her.

"Excuse, me sir, your Cubone is healed."

He immediately brought her out the pokeball and lifted her into his arms as soon as he could.

"Are you ok? I swear I'll keep a better eye out from now on."

She nuzzled his chin with the top of her head, though it was mostly blocked by the skull but she made it know that she was fine and that he needed to calm down.

He was more scared than she was.

"I know, I know, I should calm down, I knew you'd be fine, you're strong Y/n."

"Cu!"

"Heh, alright let's go home, been a long day."

This time on the way home he made absolutely sure no one messed with her.

Once home she ran off to find Papyrus' Marowak, mostly since she was so full of energy after being healed and wanted to play.

Sans made sure she was gone before getting his other two Pokemon.

"Come on guys, we gotta go give someone a bad time."
