In the monster world being born with a weak soul is about as bad as being born with a disease. Basically I can't exert my energy or magic for long periods of time. If I do I faint and have the chance of not waking up.

And being a pretty energetic girl that can be an issue. Especially when I was a kid. I had been just outside playing with my older sibling and I fainted and woke up in a hospital.

I spent alot of time there as the doctors tried to strengthen my soul, they couldn't. But I guess it wasn't all terrible. I met a young skeleton that I became immediate friends with.

His name was Geno. He was in the hospital for a sickness which I can't remember the name of for the life of me. But he was always kind no matter how much pain he was in.

But I was set to go home and I didn't know if I'd see him again. It was bittersweet to say the least.

I was gonna go visit him but it's funny how fate changes things. Our parents later got into a car accident and left me and my sibling to our aunt cities away.

We spent years up there, most of elementary and middle school was spend there. My sibling was now in college and we moved back to our home town for me to start highschool.

I had thought about trying to find Geno but would he even remember me. I wanted to but I needed to focus on school at the moment.

Really the first of day of school was pretty uneventful, at least until English class. And like many other teachers they had me introduce myself.

I explained that I had lived here before and even recognized some of the people in the class. The class was a mixture of humans and monsters, and one monster in particular caught my eye.

It appeared to be Geno but I wasn't jumping to conclusions, I mean it had been about seven years. The rest of the class went by slowly, thank God it was my last class.

I was getting my stuff together when someone tapped my shoulder, I turned to see the boy I thought was Geno.

"Y/N is that really you", the skeleton asked. I nodded excitedly and he hugged me. "Geno, oh my gosh you look so grown up. How are you", I asked.

"A lot better now that your back", he said smiling. The bell rang and we walked out, Geno then asked me to come over for a sleepover with his brothers and couple friends. Of course I said yes, I haven't seen him since we were kids.

After that I ran home and packed a bag and walked over to his house, which luckily was close to mine.

I got over there and saw Geno, Error and Fresh along with two skeletons I hadn't met named Ink and Blue. Everything was going great, we were watching a movie, chatting and just having a good time.

Until I forgot that I had left something at my house. I said I was gonna go get it, even though Geno was against it since it was getting dark.

After minutes of protest he let me go. It was still kinda light out if I hurried I'd be fine. I had grabbed it and hurried back, though I had an uneasy feeling, like someone was watching me.

I walked faster almost running but careful not to tire myself. Bad idea. Someone grabbed me by the arms and tried to drag me into an alley nearby. I got an arm free and punched them hard as I could.

They weakened their grip and I ran fast as I could. I got to Geno's house and ran in. The world was spinning and I had to use the door to stand.

Next thing I knew all I heard was someone calling my name before the world went black.

I woke up in a hospital bed, just like when I was a kid. But instead of my parents being there it was Geno's mom CQ. "Oh good your awake, we were so worried", she said looking relieved.

"What happened. All I remember was getting back to your house and then nothing", I explained. "You fainted once you got back, the doctors said it was due to over exertion on your soul".

I nodded knowing why it had happened. She walked out and Geno walked in. He looked like he had been crying.

He ran over and hugged me careful of my fragile state. I tried to hug back but I was pretty weak.

He let go and put his hand on mine. "I'm sorry Geno I should've listened to you. If I had n-none of this would have h-happened", I said trying not to cry.

"Hey, hey calm down, I'm not mad, no one is. I'm just glad your ok", he said in a comforting voice, "what even happened", he asked.

"S-someone grabbed me and tried to take me. I got free and ran back to your place. I didn't think about my soul and fainted", I explained.

"It's ok now Y/N. The doctor said you should be good to go home soon. And we can pick up where we left off all those years ago", he said excited.

All those years ago. It had been so long that I forgot that I had liked him for a time. I realized now it hadn't gone away.

"Where did we even leave off, it's been awhile", I jokingly asked. "Well, we were best friends trying to make the most of time in the hospital, like now I guess, huh".

"And... I was wanting to be... a little more than friends", he said looking away.

I took the opportunity to admit the same thing. "Me too Geno. Seeing you again today made me realize how much I missed you and how much I...well h-how much I l-liked you", I squeezed his hand to get him to look back at me.

He had a loving smile and got closer to me. "I've wanted to do this for years now", he said leaning down and kissing me. It was short but full of love and longing.

He pulled away and we spent the rest of my time there catching up and remembering the time we had spent together before.

I guess all roads really do lead home.
