"Subject 1."
"Subject 1 wake up!"
Sans' eyesockets shot open at the voice, one he hoped he'd never have to hear again. "Welcome back, it's been far too long," Gaster said as Sans tried to get up and run.
To no avail though, his hands were chained to a wall, the metal plate on his hand very visible.
"I see you attempted to erase your name off of your plate," Gaster said examining the piece of metal with worn marks covering the words.
"My name is not subject 1 anymore. It's Sans and you know it," he growled at him.
"Maybe to you, anyway how is subject 2," he asked. "It's Papyrus, he has a name dammit," Sans said still trying to get his hands out of the restraints.
"You're never gonna forgive me, are you," Gaster asked, Sans just darkly chuckled at the question.
"If you think I could ever forgive you then you must really be an idiot," he answered.
"You may not forgive me, but I must thank you," he said, confusing Sans. "For what, I would never do anything for you."
"You showed me my new subjects," he responded. Gaster grabbed a remote off a nearby table and used it to open a nearby door.
The door revealed another set of chains, and who was being held by them made Sans' heart break.
"...y/n," he said sadly. "So that's her name, really Sans it was so rude of you to not introduce me to my daughter-in-law," Gaster said, not caring that Sans was on the verge of tears.
"Let her go, she doesn't deserve this," he yelled trying harder now to get free, to get to her.
"Oh no, I can't do that, you see she's one of my next test subjects," he explained menacingly.
"I've been wanting to see how a human soul reacts to some experiments," he said to himself almost, only scaring Sans more.
"And this will be my chance to study a monster-human hybrid, a skeleton-human hybrid at that," he added.
"You...you can't be serious. You are not giving my kid the same childhood that I had," Sans argued.
"Oh don't worry, I won't hurt them too much. They are my grandchild after all," he said while looking at a clipboard of tests to be done on you and your unborn child.
"Look, I don't care what you do to me, just let her go, let them go. Please," Sans pleaded. "Oh begging are we, if you had behaved all those years ago this wouldn't be happening."
"Now, I've got some work to do," he said as he walked into the room where you were chained, closing the door so Sans had no clue what was happening to you.
"No! Y/n...no...," he cried to himself.
"Sans!?"
"Sans, honey! Wake up!"
He bolted upright on the living room couch, your very concerned face greeting him. "Sans it's alright, everything's ok. Calm down," you said wiping away the tears that he had shed while he was asleep.
"Y-you're ok," he asked before pulling you into a tight hug.
"Yes Sans I'm fine, me and the baby both. It's ok, it was just a nightmare, you're ok," you said rubbing circles on his upper back in an attempt to sooth him.
"It was about him again, wasn't it," you asked, Sans still holding onto you as tightly as he could without hurting you. He nodded.
"He's not gonna bother us Sans, it's been almost fourteen years since then," you assured him. "I know, I just...can't stop imagining what would happen if he did."
"That's what the nightmare was about, wasn't it," you asked, it wasn't the first time this has happened, far from it.
"Yeah, he...took you, he wanted to experiment on your soul. And the baby was just supposed to be some test subject," he explained.
"Nothing's gonna happen to us, besides I know you, you'd do anything to make sure this kid has a good life," you said.
He'd been a little on edge since learning you were pregnant, not because he wasn't happy, he was ecstatic. He was just scared that he'd mess up, that he wouldn't make a good dad, despite all your attempts at convincing him he would be.
And he thought that all because of his own father, if you could really call him that. Of course he was nothing like Gaster from a parental standpoint, he just didn't think he'd know what to do since he barely had a childhood.
But more than anything, he was afraid there would come a time where he couldn't protect them, or you. That was what got to him most.
"The whole thing was just...horrible. Yet what bothered me most was that I couldn't do anything. I couldn't get free, use my magic, nothing."
"All I could do was sit and...watch it happen," he added, you finally released him from your hug.
"Sans, I know it might seem hard, but trust me, you don't need to worry. It's just a bad dream, it's not real," you explained, even though you've given him that speech several times.
"I know but what-."
"What if? Sometimes you need to forget the 'what ifs' and focus on what's actually happening now," you lectured.
"Look around you Sans, you've got an amazing brother, a wife who loves you more than anything, and a child who I'm sure can't wait to meet you," you said taking his hand in yours.
"I know your past was rough, but it's in the past for a reason, it's over, it's time to look ahead," you finished.
"I...you're right, I'm not gonna feel better unless I stop looking back on it," he said. "Thanks babe," he thanked, pulling you back to him and then sitting you down beside him.
"No need to thank me, you just relax, alright," you said cuddling into his side. "Hey, you don't have to tell me twice," he joked as he layed back down, you doing the same.
He pulled you as close to him as he could and wrapped his arms around you, one of his hands resting on your stomach, the other reaching up to hold yours.
A couple minutes later he was close to dozing off again, you the same. Yet he was wide awake once he felt something lightly hit his hand.
"You...felt that too, right," he asked, you hurriedly nodded. "Don't move, maybe it'll do it again," you whispered, hoping your child would kick again.
After a couple seconds you both felt it again, both of you also smiling wide. "See, told you they couldn't wait to meet you," you said moving your free hand to Sans'.
"Heh, well I can't wait to meet them either," he grinned. "That makes two of us," you added.
"Thanks again, babe. You know for calming me down earlier," he thanked again, kissing the side of your neck.
"Of course, but you should probably try to get some sleep. If you have another nightmare wake me up, ok," you said. He nodded.
"Well, I don't think I could have another one with my dream right here."
