'Nighyfury - an unholy offspring of lightning and death itself.'
"Sans are you reading that old book again, you know those dragons aren't real," Papyrus said breaking his brother's gaze on the book.
"I know that, doesn't make them any less interesting," he responded looking back down at the pages.
"I suppose so, just don't get to invested in them, remember how when you were younger, you wanted nothing more than to prove they were real," he added.
"I was a kid bro, I think I know they aren't real now," he said. Papyrus walked out the room and Sans continued reading.
When it came to his book of mythical creatures dragons, Nightfurys in particular, were his favorites.
They were so majestic to him, their shiny black scales and almost glowing green eyes, what he would do to make them real, then again how on Earth would you tame one.
He sighed and put his book down to walk outside onto the small balcony that was attached to the upstairs part of the house.
He stood out, looking over the surrounding area, which was mostly trees, he saw something moving through the trees, which was strange, this thing had to be massive.
Whatever it was it seemed to be trying to fly out of the woods but couldn't get off the ground. He decided to go see what it was that was causing all the movement.
If it was just an injured animal he couldn't help it, he'd probably have to get someone else to aid it if it wasn't already to badly injured.
Sans sometimes hated he was the God of Death, he had a rather soft spot for animals but couldn't touch them and definitely didn't want to hurt them.
He made his way to the edge of the trees and saw nothing so he walked a little further in. He still didn't see anything but he heard a strange noise that sounded like a cross between a growl and a pained whine.
Whatever this was wasn't a normal animal, not one that he'd heard before at least. He knew he probably should've turned back but he continued on until the noise got louder.
He heard something in the trees and saw a black flash weaving from in-between the trees, moving so fast he couldn't tell what it was.
The sheer size of the beast should make anyone run and not look back, not Sans though, he was far to curious.
A few moments later the shape ran back in front of him, this time stopping in place when noticing his presence.
Sans couldn't believe what he was seeing, he was in actual shock.
In front of him was a large, coal colored dragon with the sunlight that shone through the trees reflecting off the shimmering scales.
It was beautiful, but its posture and expression was purely dangerous. It was hunched, ready to attack with it's teeth bared and pupils turned to slits.
He saw past it's expression to it's torn and bloody wing, as well as the bloody gashes covering it's body.
Someone had attacked it, to be fair who wouldn't fear the large creature especially if they didn't first know what it was like he did.
He wanted to get closer to the beast but his movement only alarmed it further, it let out a loud roar at him before disappearing back into the greenery.
Just like that it was gone from his sight, far sooner than he expected. If he had any chance at trying to help it he would have to earn it's trust.
He then remembered his books definition of a Nightfury, 'unholy offspring of lightning and death itself.'
Does that mean it was immune to his touch, it was a creature of darkness so it was definitely possible.
He also remembered the dragons favorite food, fish, that's what he needed. After a couple hours he managed to get around a dozen fish, at least enough to feed it a little.
He set the pile of fish right where he first saw the dragon and waited for it to emerge from the trees, it happily began eating the fish, stopping at the tails.
He took his chance to slowly sneak out near the beast, which managed to see him out of the corner of it's eye.
It curled it's tail around the fish pile and growled at him, it's green eyes staring hole through him.
"Whoa hey, I'm not gonna hurt you ok, just wanna help," he said taking a step back from it. It's expression shifted from curious back to angered.
Sans showed the dragon the bandages he'd brought back with him, it let out an annoyed huff and let it's injured wing go limp as to tell him he could dress it's wounds.
He began working, the dragon slightly flinching every once and awhile, both from the pain and it not being used to the contact.
He was right, his powers couldn't hurt it, and boy was he happy about that. He moved from it's wings to it's left front leg which was badly cut up.
He finally went to it's tail which was also littered with wounds and tried his best to try bandaging it.
Thought everytime he attempted the dragon would move it's tail out of his hands. At first he figured it didn't like being touched there but soon realized it was playing a game with him.
After a couple minutes of trying to catch the tail the dragon gave in and let him win. He finished with the bandages and stood back up.
"So, do you trust me now," he asked. The dragons response was to stand up and walk over to him.
He was confused but it's eyes kept darting from his hand then back to his face. He took the hint and held his hand up the the dragon.
It immediately nuzzled it's nose against his hand. "I can't believe you're actually real, I knew Papyrus was wrong," he said continuing to slightly pet it's head.
"Do you have a name or...," he began, the dragon immediately began dragged it's tail along the bare part of the ground to draw out letters.
"Y/n, nice name. I'm Sans, or Reaper either works," he said, even though she, as he now knew or at least he guessed, couldn't openly speak back.
"Do you have a den or cave anywhere around here," he asked, she shook her head. "Well then, that's an issue huh. Here follow me," he said walking out of the woods.
She followed behind him as sneakily as she could as not to be spotted by someone and get attacked again.
He led her to his and Papyrus' house having her fly up to the balcony. She kept her head low to stay out of sight.
"You need a place to stay until you're healed, you can stay in our guest room, I'll just have to keep Papyrus away from there," he said opening the balcony doors to let her in.
She nodded and nuzzled his side as a way to say she was grateful. "Heh, you're welcome, now come on let's get you situated before my bro comes home," he said showing her to her spot.
She immediately jumped onto the bed and curled up like a cat. "I'm glad you like it, you should probably get some rest ok," he said as he pet her head one more time before leaving the room.
This was definitely the best day of his life.
