Cecaelia: A mythical being combining the head, arms and torso of a woman (more rarely a man) with the tentacles of an octopus or squid from the lower torso down.
Also real sirens were actually believed to be bird hybrids not mermaids. But for story sake I'm using the theory that they were fish hybrids.

"Hey (f/n), I found it," I said swimming towards a sunken ship, presumably a pirate ship. "Finally, now come on let's search it before someone else does," they said swimming before me.
"Try to find the Captain's quarters. It's probably where they kept the treasure," I said once we slipped in through a hole in the hull.
Finding treasure is a one of our favorite things to do. Since we're half octopus we have a love of anything that shines. Now we don't keep it for ourselves everytime we find something.
We often trade with other creatures like mermaids and sometimes humans if we keep our bottom halves hidden beneath the water.
We trade for items from the human world that we typically can't find. One of my favorite items I've gotten was from a sailor coming in from sea.
I offered him a couple of gold coins and he gave me a thing humans call a rubix cube, another thing us cecaelias like are puzzles, we like doing anything that makes us think, also the octopus in us.
"Jackpot," I yelled as I found a chest. Unfortunately it had a lock on it, not to mention that it was rusted and a key probably wouldn't have helped.
"Come on let's take it up to the reef and try to break it open," I said grabbing one side while they grabbed the other.
We swam up to the surface of the water to a bit of the rock reef that was poking out of the water. "Ok now how do w-," I started until I heard something that sounded like humming.
We turned around to see a bright blue tailed skeleton sitting on a rock facing away from us. So lost in his song he didn't notice us.
"Y/n, I think that's a siren," (f/n) said kinda scared, sirens didn't have the best reputation after all. "But I thought male sirens were extinct," I responded surprised.
Female sirens were asexual creatures and reproduced on their own when they reached a certain age. And since most were female there was no need for males (not a real fact, again for stories sake).
"Come on let's go before he sees us," they said trying to get me to swim away. "He looks harmless, you need to chill out," I said.
"Y/n let's go," they almost yelled catching the skeleton's attention. They were gone by the time he turned around.
"Sorry to interrupt you, we were about to leave anyway," I apologized, sinking slowly back down into the water.
"Oh no, it's fine. Besides it's not like I own the reef," he said kindly. "I'm Sans by the way."
"Y/n," I responded. "Now that we know each other, you wouldn't by any chance have something I can use to break a lock, do you," I asked using one of my (f/c) tentacles to lift the chest onto the reef.
"Yeah, I think I might," he said slipping into the water and swimming over. He used his magic to hit the lock with a bone, almost snapping it in two.
"Ah, thank you. Now let's see if this was worth the work," I said lifting the lid.
Inside was a small bit of gold coins, a few gems and some sea glass.
