"Why?"

Reynards soft tone wasn't accusatory. It was motherly. Warm. Concerned.

She stirred her cup of tea as you stared down at your own. It seemed Reynard liked old English styles rather than typical Japanese tea pots and cups...

A deep sigh left your chest as you placed the cup down, your mouth too dry to be satisfied with hot water and leaves.

"I don't know... I thought he would be able to help me. Maybe he'd be able to help control my heats."

She nodded, her brilliant blue eyes watching your body slump in shame.

"It's difficult to be what we are. The Omega populations are mostly in communities now. Hidden away so they can live in peace with beta partners. Very few ever choose an Alpha." She smiled fondly as she seemed to remember something before shaking her head.

"Are you this worried about your inner Omega? Would you want me to contact one of these communities?"

Your eyes widened.

"Excuse me?!"

"If it's all becoming too much, it's not giving up to want to live a life without anxieties in one of the Omega complexes-"

"No." How dare she? You hadn't worked this hard to be a hero to loose it all...

Reynards soft smile widened.

"No?" She urged and you crossed your arms.

"No. I want to be a hero. I will be a hero. I won't give in to my Omega."

"Good to hear." She reached into a drawer while your eyes narrowed.

Was she testing you?

She pulled out a document file and flipped through a few pages.

"I've gotten in contact with a few medical trials. Patches, collars, suppressant pills... All eager to get their name on a budding hero."

She pushed one your way and you took it.

'Prism Laboratories Advanced Neuroscience Systems.'

"They want to experiment with a gland collar. It seems a bit medieval in design, but think of it like a diabetes test. Small needles penetrate your neck glands through the collar and feed data to constantly adjust without overdoing it. Quite interesting in all honesty. And you can choose when to wear it or take it off." Reynard explained while you skim read the sheet, finding a diagram of the collar.

She was right about the needles, although they seemed small and shallow... A small price to pay to hide your scent.

You looked up at her.

"What do you use?"

She was scentless. Safe. How?

Her smile dropped a little and she took a sip of her tea.

"It's not a choice I'd recommend." She said quickly, looking away.

Was she crazy? She was an omega who could confidently strut the world without worrying about affecting Alphas or getting bothered by them herself! Why couldn't you have that option?

The frown on your face made her chuckle.

"Let's just say I took a rather extreme route and it's not something to be taken lightly after a few simple teething problems with a newly developed inner Omega. Try the collar if you're interested. They're willing to send one out right away. Free of charge as you'll be trialling it."

You nodded, dropping it as she seemed determined to avoid the topic and pushed the paper back across to her, feeling a little bit more hopeful about your future. But your present was one that was worrisome now.
